It depends on who you work for. Each employer has different rules. I've worked for one employer who had us work 8.5 hour shifts and we only took 30 minutes for lunch; another it was a 9 hour shift and we took 60 minutes for lunch; and currently I just work 8 hours and my employer lets me have 30 minutes for lunch as a freebie.

It depends on the employer. I've had some position that had an 8 hour day with an hour lunch included. I've had some position have a 8 1/2 hour day with 8 hours of pay and 1/2 hour lunch. Now, I have a 9 hour work day with 8 hours of pay and 1 hour lunch. It all depends.

Stereotypically you have a 9am to 5pm job but in real life it is around 8am and 5:30pm a 9-5 is 8hours when really it averages out to nearly 9 and a half hours wierd huh?

for me its been 8 hours with a lunch. so it would be a 7hour working period with a 1 hour lunch = 8 hour day

depends on the company. My company has an 8hr work day w/ 1hr off for lunch. So effectively a 9 hr day.
