I use a spray on oven cleaner one that doesn't require heat to work. The white enamel doesn't seem to be affected by the caustic ingredients in the cleaners. I use it all the time and it doesn't discolor the white at all. Be sure to use rubber gloves when working with this as it will harm your skin

I use this stuff called 'Awesome'.It's cheap...1.00, at the dollar store. I use it all around my house and believe me, I used it to clean the oven with and let it set about 10 min. then wiped it clean! It takes set-in ink out of white clothes,(exploding pens);I use it to clean soap scum out of my tub.But you don't need it always...
Any baked on food on top of stove will come out easier if you soak a paper towel with water and let it sit on the surface to be cleaned until it softens up the spill. The best way is preventing it from building up in the first place. I always wipe down my stove and counter tops after every meal I prepare. That way,I only have to do the oven when I do a big clean.

Use plastic gloves. I get the stuff off with a combination of bleach and comet. It's really great at removing anything that's burnt on, caked on, or smeared on. Use a scrub pad too.

All good answers. When I didn't have the time nor desire to wait and scrub I used a small paring knife to scrape the burnt ick off.
