America paid a terrible price in Vietnam and it ended up being for nothing. America had brought the war on communism to a foreign country and it did nothing to fight communism. Is America bringing a war on terror to a country that will do little/nothing against the actual war on terror? Are their any Vietnam veterans that agree/disagree with this possibility?

Thanks

Justin - America is at 3000 and counting. Violence is increasing and America could be in Iraq for many years to come. I hope it's not the case, but the 3000 you speak of could be just the beginning.

I can understand where you see the parallels. In America, we have become accustomed to quick, easy, almost bloodless victories. We love to turn on the evening news and watch another bridge get blown to pieces. I understand that you aren't talking about the amount of US casualties one or two above mentioned. I would have to say right now no, it's not another Vietnam.... Ask me again in a year.

No.
The comparisons are the brain child of the same type of anti-war, pacifist, brain dead and ignorant flower power jerks that pretty much conceded to the North Viet Namese's smoke and mirror tactics aimed, not at the troops, but at the American people - and, despite winning every major battle, we lost the war.
And we'll lose this one, too, if we continue to suck up the media's anti-war rhetoric and continue to ignore the Islamic terrorists' threats and demands.

Unfortunately, the results of loosing this war will be a hell of a lot more devastating than Viet Nam. The North Viet Namese didn't follow the troops back to the states and bring the war to our shores.

It already is. Iraq, like Vietnam, is a war designed by people with an agenda different from the population of our country. We were told what Vietnam was, as we are now still told what Iraq is. In both cases, what we were told is a lie. Vietnam was supposed to be a threat to us, and Iraq was painted with the same brush. In both cases, they were not a threat until we went in and mucked them up and got bogged down. Iraq was bad but not anywhere near the problem it has become due to our intervention. Before it was a dictatorship under Saddam and now it threatens to become a radical Islamic state controlled by people extremely angry with us and in control of Iraq's oil. As we don't want that, we are faced with staying there indefinitely to prevent even worse consequences, Bush's plan all along, with hundreds of billions of your dollars going to Halliburton, etc., and God only knows what else is going on. Meanwhile Iraq, one of the Holiest places of Islam is turning to rubble, and 600,000 Iraqis have lost their lives. Most people describe that as genocide. Bush has done so much to destroy our moral standing in the world, while alienating the worldwide Muslim community. This is all very much like Vietnam.

The News Media is covering-up the thousands of brave Iraqis that are fighting the terrorists.
They don't want us to know.
Many Democrat Politicans and the News Media want a Vietnam in Iraq, so the Democrats can gain complete Power over our country in 2008.
They want us to lose in Iraq.

60,000 american lives lost in vietnam vs about 3000 in iraq.

a monkey with half a brain could make this distinction.

i am not snapping at you or criticizing you personally, but the two are quite distinct.

the war in vietnam was a complete failure. we accomplished what we set out to this time....we just are having trouble cleaning up!
