The toilet was working. Went back in to use it and it would not flush, took off the lid or the tank no water. Played around with the internal ball and chain...no water. Checked the valve and the water is on. The other toilet is working fine and the water in that bathroom is working fine??? Anyone have a clue? Stumped!

Thanks,
Tina

When you push down on the float does any water come out at all? A drip even? I'm guessing that you have some sort of clog between the valve and where the water comes out to fill the toilet. Or you may have a bad valve, although valves don't usually go bad unless it has recently been used. May have to call in the pro's on this one.

To get water in the tank there are only two places that can cause the problem. The valve at wall below the tank and the valve mechanism in the tank itself.

Here's how to determine. Start with the valve at the wall below the tank.
1. Make sure the valve is on. (Turn counter-clockwise).
2. Manipulate the mechinism in the tank to see if you can get water out. If you do.. replace this as it's a problem and they are too cheap to try to fix.
3. If you can't get water out of the mechanism... turn off the valve at the wall.
4. Disconnect the piping that connects the wall valve to the tank mechanism at the tank.
5. Slowly turn on the water valve. If water flows, turn off the valve and replace the tank mechanism.
6. If water doesn't flow, turn off the valve and then remove the valve.. slowly.. the valve may be defective and water will begin to leak out. If you have water pressure behind the valve.. replace the valve.. if not.. figure out where the water is stopped.

Good luck!
