Simple answer: Yes there is. In fact there are thousands. Most of the WWWs income (I have no official sources for this claim) is likely based on such a system.

Informed answer:

How do you access a billion person market with information why your product/service is better than anyone elses? Do any popular web search with yahoo and and you will find prioritised listing relating to your keyword at the top of the results - "sponsored links."

Yahoo makes fat wads of moolah from advertising and helping other websites receive users. Frankly, as a "media exchange resource" it is quite possibly the Daddy at the moment.

So you want to make money from people wisiting your website? The simplest form of this that I can think of off the top of my head is creating something called a web portal. A web portal is a mini site with a number of links to other sites relating to a certain topic.

Perhaps you wanted to run a fashion site:

Offers hints n tips on current fashions
Has a forum where registered user can post pics of clothes and discuss ideas and outfits.
Has a monthly commentary on the state of fashion.

(these attract the punters)

HAVE LINKS AND BANNERS SENDING THE USER TO A CLOTHES RETAILER WHO IS PAYING YOU 1C PER USER THAT VISITS VIA YOUR LINK.

The only limit to the money that can be made is your imagination and common sense. Oh yeah....and a whole dung heap load of hard work and faith. There have been some phenomenal success stories over the past few years of charismatic nerds come good with a unique and brilliant idea. Bebo or one of the ones like it was started up by one man and his trusty two button steed and has recently attracted serious attention from some major (dinosaur?) paper n print media corporations who are feeling threatened.

Best of luck mate. Sign me up for .001% of annual gross and well call it even.
