I applied for a position and got an e-mail reply from the employer saying they were impressed by my C.V. and would like to invite me to attain an open interview and asked me to book a position for it. I called today but the HR person was not in her office so I emailed back to the CEO(also the one who sent me the e-mail before) aked whether or not I'd be able to call him on his convenience to book a position. I was thinking to have a word with him as well. But he just sent a copy of having some people at HR department reserving a position for me but ask me to call him.

Does that mean he wasn't so interested in hiring me? Why didn't they give me a telephone inverview before the face to face interview? Please give me some suggestions and opinions, thank you!

There's nothing to be alarmed about here. Not all companies do phone interviews.

The CEO's response seems fine too. He is a busy person who doesn't have time to schedule individual appointments -- that's what the HR department is for. He wasn't trying to be dismissive of you; probably just following protocol.

I wouldn't sweat a thing. They're interested in you and want you to come in for an interview ... that's a Good Thing, so stay focused on that!

And, good luck!

I have had interviews for several different positions in my life and I have never had a telephone interview. The CEO's of companies usually don't keep their appointment books. They rely on a secretary to do that for them, and the HR department to take care of setting appointments for interviews.
Since it is an open interview that could mean that you might be quailified for different positions in the company. You might not necessarily be speaking with the CEO anyway. It does not mean that he is not interested in hiring you since he contacted you in the first place. Unless it is a small company and he is personally doing the hiring, it is unlikely you will speak to him until you are hired, if then. If it is a large company he may have had a secretary to send you the email in his name. You will most likely interview with someone in HR and then a supervisor who is over the position you applied for. If you qualify for different positions then you might interview with more than one supervisor. Then they will contact you if you got the position.
Keep trying to reach the HR department to set an appointment.
I hope this helps some.

You've got alot to learn about getting a job. First of all, if a company sends you an e-mail with certain instructions about how to set up an interview, follow those instructions....do not start calling a CEO or anyone else in the company unless instructed to do so.

You probably blew the job by doing that. Telephone interviews are rare these days. Learn to follow instructions.

Differen tcompanies have their own way of screening applicants. Some don't do it becasue they hire an Agency to do the leg work for them. Others just prefer the old fashioned way of seeing the applicant first hand instead of the pre telephone screening. The best you can do is to leave a message saying that you will call back at a certain time and date to follow up. Good luck!

this is ok,but u shouldnt call them or email them unless they tell u, they should feel ur not in real need of the position u applied for, in addition , some companies have a gap time between 1st and 2nd interview and this gap is changeable to see how much ur patient is.

i applied for a job by email, after 1 month they called me and made interview face 2 face the 2nd day, after that i had 2 wait 1 month and ahalf befor they call me for 2nd interview on phone, and now am in that company as comminucation eng,by the way , the company is ALCATEL.

best regards to u

Many positions would rather have a one on one interview rather then a phone interview. If the position is one you want go for it.
