I usually don't, and I am a server. I can see both sides of the issue. I hate it when a group of 20 kids comes in after prom, are rude, demanding, snotty and then leave $2.00. And they usually ALL order milkshakes and you handmade each of those.
However, when I'm in a restaurant where they automatically add it, I do not. In most cases, IT IS THE SERVER THAT ASKS the manager to add the 15%, NOT THE RESTAURANT and that means she doesn't think you would leave her anything. So, unless she did a fabulous job and was on top of everything with a smile, 15% is standard.
I have been to restaurants where it is clearly marked a 15% gratuity will be added to all bills, and in that case I speak to the manager, and never go there again.

Depends on how good the service was! In NYC the standard tip is now around 18%, and 20% means excellent service! Or, if your group was particularly "tough" to wait on.......last restaurant I worked in was 2 stories, and the only drink station was on the first floor. It was SO annoying, you'd ask if anyone else wanted a refill while you were going, and everyone would say no, then when you came back 3 minutes later.........OF COURSE they want one.......or the person who sends you 5 different times for 5 different things.......then the payer should definately tip extra! Not only are you running us ragged but you're taking away from our time with our other tables!

I don't think it's fair denying the server a better tip just because the managers of the restaurant are idiots!!!!

If the restaurant already charges the gratuity and adds it to my bill, I NEVER tip extra.

It's a shame, because I may have felt that the wait-staff deserved far more than 15%. But I abhor restaurants that tack on tips for you, and so on principal I never tip more when they do this. And I always make sure to tell the manager how their policy hurts their employees if the wait-staff who served my table would have earned more in a tip from me if the restaurant hadn't had such an awful policy.

No. I hate when restaurants do that. They indicate that they don't trust you to leave a tip and then forcing you to pay 15% even if you didn't receive good service. You do not have to leave the 15% if you don't want to though - it is, at most, a "suggestion". The restaurant cannot force you to pay the 15%. No, you do not leave additional tip.

no. when the 15% is on the bill you do not leave a tip. restaurants who charge the mandatory 15% are not giving it to the person who earns it. It is usually divided up between the whole staff. Of course if your waitress is a fox and you want to impress her go for it.

You should only leave extra if you believe the service was exceptional and the wait staff really went out of you way to accomendate your needs.

Remember it is the service, not the food, the wait staff doesn't have control over the quality, that is with the cooks. Do not penalize the server if the food is not cooked to your liking.

Brits are infamous for undesirable tipping. And England is likewise customary for its undesirable provider. twist of fate? does not appear like it. In united states of america of america, if a "gratuity" is secure, it is going to the server (who then often has to chop up it with the kitchen and different help team). even with the undeniable fact that, I have no thought no count number if contained in the united kingdom it works like that. In some places I even have been contained in the worldwide (Egypt, working example), eating places have indicators asserting that the provider charge does not pass to the waitstaff, as an obtrusive encouragement to pass away one greater tip. all of us who claims that waiting tables does not require skills has in no way tried it. I did it for some months and became into terrible. The journey gave me a clean recognize for servers.

I would say "No" and then not eat there again. I believe it's up to me to tip the waitstaff, not have it automatically added to my bill. I determine how much of a gratuity to leave, based on the service I received.
