It's too bad you didn't ask this question about a month ago. At that point I'd have suggested you be a precinct worker in the election. If you're looking for an interview, I'd suggest you find one of the more obscure officials--like a water commissioner or a member of the local hospital or library board. It might be interesting to find out about a job no one really knows about.

I would investigate the impact of socialization such as Same Sex Marriage or Stem Cell research on local and state legislation.
