What is the best way to check your cervical mucous while trying to pinpoint ovulation???

I know this may be a strange question but I tend to have a regular discharge all thru the month and need advise on how to check for the differences in my mucous from day to day.

You reach a finger inside and "collect" some form your cervix and pull it out and look at it. try to strech it between two fingers to see how elastic it is, the more elasticv the more fertile the mucous is. The qty can also be a sign of fertility.
