This argument was put forward by a police chief constable (CC), to offload prosecutions of young men not much older than the 13 year old. The problem is that some girls of 10 and 11 have been known to have sex with boys of 15 or 16. What the CC is saying is that these cases should be treated differently. The problem is paedophiles would have a field day wouldn't they. You are still a child and have not yet had your childhood, childhood is very precious: you only have it once. If you made a mistake who would support and look after the baby? Would you expect your mum or dad or other members of the family, the state who?
Any half decent bloke would not want to know you after having a baby and you would have gained a reputation for being easy. The only bloke who would look at you are the undesirables. is that really what you want. Of course its not. Skip the sex and look forward to a good life and meeting a man who will respect and Cherish you and a life where you have the choice to go to school and study for qualifications that will give you the freedom to do whatever you want. Don't think that having sex is the be all and end all its not.

Should be 16 everywhere with the partner being no more than 3-4yrs older that would keep the old guys somewhat at bay. After a young man/woman is 16 they will decide as to have sex or not irregardless of government intrusion on their rights.

Reducing it to 13 would be so wrong, as you have pointed out. The age of consent should stay at 16. At 13 you are still a child, altho you and other wont say that but at end of day you are. A 13 is not out working. Should stay at 16.

Would you like it if your daughter was sexually active at 13? OR even your son? Would you be happy if your daughter became pregnant at 13, or your son became a father. Not forgetting all theses STD that are about. And Syphillis is comong back in the UK! I sometimes think some of the people who come up with these idea's are closet peodophilles!

I think it should he higher-ed to 18.

Kids, teenagers more so think it is cool to brake the rules and if highering it meant that they actually did it at 16 or 17 then the child (because that is what they are) would have matured and not be susceptible to older prey (paedophiles). Also might help to lower teenage pregnancies because then they will be more clued up

Lowering the age of consent to 13 is a VERY bad idea, and not just from the pedophile angle. Teenagers, even young people in their early 20's, have absolutely no appreciation for the possible consequences of their actions. They think they know everything when they know diddly-over-squat and they expect to be treated like adults when they're still children -- and still ACTING like children. Heck, the drinking age was raised to 21 because too many teenagers were dying in alcohol-related incidents, and we STILL have a huge group of kids barely over the age of 21 that aren't responsible enough to handle alcohol. How can you expect a 13-year-old to act responsibly when it comes to sex? The simple answer is you can't, and I guarantee you if the age of consent is lowered the teen pregnancy rate is going to go WAY up. Bad news for all involved...

Thats horrible. Where is this? 13 is way too young. I was having sex at 14 but dont think people should until after high school. That way if someone makes an oops, their more likely to have a means to support their little suprise.

Where does it say that 'they' are thinking of lowering the sexual age of consent, and which newspaper is this? The Sport? Was the article next to the long zoom lens shot of Kerry Katona's thong as she stumbled into the back of a taxi?

At 13 the vast majority of children are completely mentally unprepared for all the baggage that comes along with entering into a sexual relationship. In the Western Society in which I live, if my daughter starts having sex at 13 I will consider myself a failure as a parent and despair at her lack of self-esteem and lost childhood.

As far as paedophilia is concerned I doubt that lowering the age of consent will have an awful lot to do with how much of it goes on - that's a whole other debate.

The trouble is, they keep broadening the definition of what constitutes a paedophile. To me, a paedophile is a person of 18+ who has sexual relations with pre-pubescants, say -13. To be honest, I don't like the word paedophile, it is too emotive and difficult to define, and entraps some who don't deserve to be labelled as a paedophiles.

Somehow society feels it should protect the young and vulnerable, but there are problems when you draw strict lines. Should it be illegal for a 16 year old boy to have a 15 year old girlfriend? Should it be illegal for a 60 year old man to have a 17 year old girlfriend?
