Both of my little boys had very dry skin, to the point that it looked scaly in places on their legs and upper arms. I used a bit of plain vaseline on their dry spots at every diaper change (it does stain the clothes though, so use just a very little, or put him in sleepers that you aren't too concerned about) and after every bath. I also put baby oil on them while they were in the tub. This cleared up the problem in about 1 week's time. You have to be diligent though, about applying it. The dryness was especially worse in the winter.
I really hope this helps!

They normally shed excess skin. My baby boy is 2 months and still has horribly dry skin. IT's really bad on his face. I asked the OB and she said try a little vaseline on his cheeks and forhead...which has done wonders. And since he also has sensitive skin I use either regular olive oil or Baby Aveeno and it does great for his body. Avoid Johnson and Johnson lotion for now. There is alcohol in it and can be drying. Don't throw it away, just save it for later when his skin develops a little more. Babies have less skin surface than we do so they get dry faster and they breathe faster so they lose moisture much faster.

First if you feel that concerned you may want to get a second Dr. opinion. Second I have a ten year old boy and when he was a baby he to had really bad dry skin. The best thing in the market is call Eucerin which is fume free and Aquaphor bring this name up with your primary care physician and see what he says. Try it it might help your baby 's delicate skin. Good Luck

My son had this problem for years and went to many different doctors and received a different answer from every one. what worked for me is giving him olive oil bathes just put 2 capfulls of olive oil in his bath water and pat him dry it will clear it up with in the week. You also have to use soap with no dye or scent my son is 12 now and still can only use dove the white one. Aveeno also worked better than eucerin.

Many infants have this. My kids did and they peeled. The best thing I have found is aveeno for babies. It is GREAT!!!! No baby oil though. If you son starts to get little rough patches of dry skin perhaps on his cheeks, or trunk, take him to the doc b/c it could be ezcema. Congrats on the baby!
Euricin is also a great product!

I cannot understand why the DR. said not to use anything. I used Baby Magic lotions on my children and there was never a problem. Maybe when you give him a bath use some of the Baby Magic soap, it should moisurize his skin.

I would ask another doctor, there is a Neutrogena Norwegian Formula lotion that is unscented and great for babies skin. Also make sure you have humidifiers going in your home to help keep your baby's skin good. Good luck and congratulations!!

Sometimes....you can use lotions or even baby oil...but you have to be careful because it can irritate the skin even further...My youngest son flaked after he was born and the only thing i found that helped was not batheing him daily and letting his own oils build up and take care of it on its own....Hope it helps and good luck with the little one!!!

Get a second opinion. You would think the doctor would say to make sure there is plenty of lotion or moisturizer on his skin to keep it soft.
