.. I ask because he seems to have lost a lot of credibility due to his outspoken beliefs and "unconventional" behaviour of late...
I'm actually not too keen on the guy but think he's a good actor but [then again so is Morgan Freeman and he has never won an Oscar and he doesn't have the same idiosyncracies that Tom has]...
Future Oscar contender or not??

Tom Cruise is on a downhill path due to his incredible arrogance and also his insane adherence to a kooky cult that has not been recognised as a religion in the UK. (Scientology is actually a money-making business).
Tom Cruise fired his public relations firm about a year ago, because he felt he did not need their damage control. That was his greatest mistake.
Paramount fired him because women refused to pay good money to see his last film, mostly because of reports that he was gagging his girlfriend during childbirth so her screams of pain would not damage "their" child.
He will never win an Oscar, and personally, my own wish is that he walks off, holding his darling "daughter" Suri, into the sunset and never grins at us again.

No. Actors are judged on their 'bankability' in order to be considered for a role. He has alienated far too many people with his antics and posturing. He could, of course, fund his own pictures but his weird sense of self-identity keeps him making pictures like Mission Impossible which will never be Oscar winners.

I don't think his beliefs should effect his acting abilities. If he finds the right part he could be a future Oscar contender.

Does he really need to? He has more money and "fame" and a new third wife (albeit a little robbing the cradle here, I give it 3 years) to boot. So what does he care if he wins and Oscar or not? I really never went ga-ga for him, never saw anything in him, looks, talent or otherwise. He's a mediocre actor. To me it's all hype.

Not unless he undergoes a major change in attitude. But it is possible - lots of people like Marlon Brando have managed to resurrect their career after all.

He'll always be one of those typecasted "action heroe"-types who will never be given any serious consideration for an Oscar.

I predict his marriage to Ms. Holmes will not last...

He could, yet i do unlike him. I propose he substitute into with Nicole Kidman for ten years and then wham they get divorced, and he dates Penelope Cruz for 3 years, no wedding ceremony, no young ones, and then they smash up and then he's all ga-ga over Katie Holmes and in some weeks she's pregant with the inheritor to the looney throne.

Nope. For that to happen people would have to take him seriously again and I don't see that happening. His nutjob antics have a lot of people thinking he's a few cans short of a six-pack and I happen to be one of them. I don't think his career can make a comeback at this point....

Realistically no.. the way his movie history has been for the past few years, he's not marketable as an "actor", just a face.

Sure, if he starts taking on roles more demanding than Mission: Impossible 17...
