Nature is lazy, just that simple. It is easier to have the same structure in both men and women (since any such structure has to be written in the DNA, then there is no need for different DNA) and simply have it activated by the few genes that control sex hormones at puberty.
Suppose that men did not have nipple, then the DNA for NOT having nipple would have to be on the Y chromosome than only men have; and the DNA for describing the nipple would have to be on the X chromosome, but men have ONE X chromosome. The only way to have that would be to have extra code to erase nipples on the Y chromosome, to balance the "have nipple" on the X. uch too complicated. Mother nature likes things to be simpler.
So men walk around with unneeded body parts.

For the first six weeks of life all embryos develop with a female template. Only after this first six weeks does the testosterone begin to kick in, but by that time the nipples are already formed.

This exact topic is covered in the book "Why Men Have Nipples" (no joke, it's a real book), you should check it out.

I hope this helps!

It is a very good and interesting question. Thanks Yahoo. I may be entirely wrong. But, I, as a common man, feel this way that during the formation of body for a future boy or girl, inside a womb, the process is same, until the final sex determination process by the chromosomes etc. takes place. Therefore provision of nipples etc. appear in advance. Am I correct, nearly correct or entirely wrong? I think learned Doctors could guide.

The more we use the more it is effective and appearent.. As yu said its purpose more the utility , the more advancement..
yur question for a difference in the man ...is the less the feeding and less the development!... The more we use the more it shaprens of grows...! The less we use the less it grows..
And yu gentle man! You know one thing. All these physical differenes in the human body are geared up by the Role of the Harmones.. There is nothing beyond the appearence! All is within the role of harmones and harmones.!

Zach0 is in part correct, but not exactly, when a sperm and egg fuse it becomes an "unsexed" (neither male nor female) zygote, during development of an embryo we remain unsexed and both (male and females) develop along the same basic route eg polar development (head at one end, feet and the other and all the major organs in the correct places. We all develop sex organs, and have the same structure until the effects of the sex chromosomes take effect, so we all have nipples -- which are linked to the X chromosome in both males and females (meaning they are not technically sexed because everyone has at least 1 X) it is only once the second X (in females) or the Y (males) has an effect which the "sexless sex organs" become sexed, ie in females begine to develop into ovaries or in males drop and develop into testis. every organ a female has can be linked directly to male organs and traced back to when we were "unsexed" at the very beginning of our life cycle in the womb of our mother.

So nipples are not entirely sex linked, they develop before we are "sexed" (become male or female) later in embryo development.

thats the scientific reason for them

as for use that is different, like girls u can get pleasure during sex but its different in guys, not as fun i dont think. try it. cos theres still plenty of nerve endings

It was man who was created by God, followed by creation of woman by taking a bone of rib cage from man and created with a purpose that every woman should bear the child and likewise feed to the babe. It is just an extension of the man that mother to breast feed.

God has his own specific reason, which could not explained. So, I do not there is any logic in this question

It is simply god's creation

I agree with the above answers, also, men with nipples were/are not selected over (mated with) men without nipples, so there was no reason for them not to have them!

It was used long time ago for same purpose. But it is the case of use it or loose it.

Every thing is there but the lactation.

Some even lactate but rarely and very little.

a fetus is embyologically same upto a period of their gestational life, thereafter, under genetic & hormonal influnce ,there is differential growth of primary & sec. sexual charachters.in puberty, again ,there is influence of female sex hormones which leads to development of breasts, while in men they remain as vestigial sec. sexual organs.a definite purpose of male nipple seems transmission of ****** sensation.
