I'm thinking about getting it, but I'm not sure 'cause of the consequences that can come with it. If you had the shot and aren't referring to a friend, are you still on it? Why or why not are/ aren't you still on the shot?

The only plus to getting the shot is that most women stop getting their period. I was on it for a year and I didn't get my period for a whole year. The downside to that year was that I gained 60LBS!! I also became very weak & tired all the time. I decided to stop taking the shot when I actually did some research on the internet and I found out all of the side effects from women who were on it as well. I didn't like what I read. After I stopped the shot I had my period for two months straight and my period was irregular for two years after that. Also, still to this day my health doesn't feel as it used to feel, I feel like the shot did some damage to my body. If you really want to take the shot do your research!!

I have had the shot, and the only reason I am currently not on it, is because after 5 years, you are supposed to take a break from it for a year. It was the best birth control I have ever taken. My first suggestion is research, because all forms of birth control come with some type of risk involved, like anything that changes the way your body is supposed to function naturally. My second suggestion is that if you do choose to get it, get it in the arm, and make them rotate arms each time, if not, one arm can actually become a little larger than the other. Your first shot may cause you some pain in your arm, but it goes away after a couple days, and it's no worse pain than when you get a tetanus shot. That's why I suggest the arm and not the hip. There is some current controversy about the Depo shot not being good for women's bones, but again, just about all birth control methods have some risks. As someone who has taken it for five years, as soon as my year off is finished, I have to say, I will be going back to the Depo shot.

I liked the depo, but my doctor has a notice from the maker of the Depo Provera shot, saying that the bone loss that you experience while on the birth control, is not always reversible. Meaning that they thought before when you stopped taking the shot, you would get your bone loss right back, but now they are finding out you don't. So I had been on it for about 1.5 years and she said that 2 years was the maximum time someone should really be on it. So I got off it, but while on it, it was pretty nice until the last couple months I got non stop bleeding, and my sex drive disappeared. Although we could all tell you our own experiences with the depo, Check with your doctor and see whats right for you. Good Luck!

I have purely been on it for extra or less 6 months...2 injections. the first time I were given it, I had recognizing for like a month promptly. The second time I were given it, i did not have recognizing till I were given my era...then after that i have been recognizing considering that. this does no longer ensue to anybody though, that's diverse with all females. The record did say that it really is a common area outcome that is going away after a lengthy time period of being on it. After about a 12 months of being on it, you are able to provide up having sessions all jointly. different unfavorable consequences i have experienced were shrink in sex force and some dryness down there. I have also heard that it should be tricky to concieve a baby after being on it...in case you advise on having little ones interior the subsequent few years i'd not advise it. i have heard it may take in to 2 years after preventing the shot. i ought to indicate the shot in case you do not plan on having little ones interior the subsequent few years, have worry remembering to take the pill, don't have the heart to flow through the implanted start controls, or are weired out through the ring ( i comprehend i'm..eeww) The gaining weight element varies from human being to human being...in case you carry water easily or bloat up for the period of your era, you should benefit some weight. the widely used weight benefit for those human beings is purely like 10-15lbs. also, considering that i have been on it, i have stated my face has cleared up lots! I have purely had like 2 pimples interior the previous 4 months. also, in case you do get the shot, ascertain you initiate taking a calcium supplement. Depo Provera has something in it that can make contributions to bone weakening. I honestly stated a weakening soreness in my knees after some months. So I basically all started eating 2 of those chocolate calcium chews an afternoon. once you're searching for something low upkeep and the shot would not sound properly for you, i ought to also advise attempting the IUD implant. It is going less than your pores and skin and lasts for as a lot as 5 years. they're severe priced though and coverage would not conceal it.

It can be a very good thing. No daily worries about remembering to take you pill, no patch to fall off, and all the same benifits. But it has its draw backs. You will gain more weight on this method than any other because it's such a high dose of hormones at once. So if you're a woman who is already fighting the uphill battle with weight as 80% of us are, it's probably not for you. But if your one of those 20% with the metabolism of a Thoroughbred(and if you are I hate you) then go for it. You may have spotted bleeding til you body gets used to it, but it's no worse than any period you've had. I tried it and quickly got off it after one shot because I gained almost 25lbs without a single other change in my life. But it is a personal choice, so weigh the options and what's important to you.

I don't recommend getting it, but everyone is different, so it might work well for you.

I used it for a year and a half and i hated every minute of it.
Side effects: Decreased sex drive, headaches, always feeling tired, lower back pain, my bones felt like breaking at any time, need to take much more calcium while on it, muscle aches, no period at all after half a year using it, and then 2 whole months on my period which caused me to be anemic, ridiculously mood changes, after i stooped using it, i still had all the side effects for another 6 painful months.

Not worth it at all for me.

I hope this helps you decide.

Oh, one thing good about depo provera: it works really well protecting about pregnancy.... that's about the only good thing.

I have never used it but have known a friend in KY who was physically ill for years while on it and it wasn't until I sent her hubby all the info about the nasty things it can do that she finally got off of it and started feeling better. This lady by the way was tested for everything imagainable from gallbladder to everything else and the doc never once considered that it might be her depo shot. She was literally in bed or on the couch sick with no life. She got off of it and finally started getting her life back. Do a web search for Depo stories and read before you make a decision.

It is a horrible thing. I had a huge reaction to the shot that left me next to bed-ridden for a week, and I felt horrible for at least three weeks. As if that wasn't bad enough, my body fought off the birth control aspect so I could still get pregnant, but I couldn't take anymore birth control (like the pill) 'cause the hormones were still in my body.

I got the shot last year and it was the worst thing i could of done. Till this day my periods are so irregular, very heavy. I had extremly bad headaches. Another thing to think about is the risk of osteoperosis. It's just not worth it.
