My friend and I have to do a marketing project and we need to know.....so please respond!

I ignore the packaging aesthetics and look at the health of the plant. Know your audience.

Depends. When I'm in a hurry for a quick gift, I like the foil. Sometimes there's also nice little plastic animals/flowers or the like with it.
There are also social considerations. When visiting home, my family considers it tacky to just bring something store bought. However for most of my friends, a home made decorated gift is tacky.

Quick gift situations:
* Last minute invite to Thanksgiving dinner -- this makes a quick centerpiece.
* Visiting someone in the hospital
* Quick birthday gift

When I dont need the foil:
* Buying a plant for my office
