Higher power objectives are longer and more likely to accidently get rotated down into a position that will cause damage to them. At least, that is what my science teacher always told me -- lol!!

just because the lowest powered objective is the first one you look through, so when the next person comes to look through it it will be in the right spot

Since, high-power objective lens are bigger, they are eaiser to hit the metal lower part and break by accident. Also, its more expensive.
