when it's all said and done...how many dollars
do you think you will have shelled out for
Christmas this year. Be honest. Lets see what
people really spend. I plan to spend $800 on gifts
for others and about $500 on gifts for me and my
small family. Also about another $200 for wrapping,
and extra food and last minute decorations and such.
leaving a total bill for me.. of... $1500. Thats
probably not alot for some people..but it is for me!

It won't cost me much at all! All my money goes for bills and I mean All with more due! So I will very sadly be spending and shopping for no-one. I have 6 kids and 12 grandchildren and my motto has always been "If you can't get all of them something then no-one gets any. I will spend the day under my covers where no one can see my red swollen eyes. Cause I don't want to go somewhere and just GET gifts I want to be able to give.

Less than two hundred dollars. I have been looking at yard sales and the flea market for gifts all year. (And yes, they are thoughtful and in good shape - not crap.) I will make the rest of my presents from my fabric stash. I hang a branch from my ceiling to hang my ornaments on - it is very cheerful and funky. I have either saved wrapping paper from other years or will make fabric bags for gift wrap. Already have a turkey for six dollars on sale at Safeway.
To the grandma who is hiding because she can't buy presents - I know that's hard. I feel bad sometimes because my sisters and girlfriend have more money to spend and my gifts are more modest. But why not make cookies for everyone (bar cookies, like brownies are easy to make from a mix!) and go and be the life of the party. Play with your grandchildren. Help clean up. Be loving and kind to everyone. I had two grandmothers, one who had a lot of money, and one who didn't. Though I was grateful for the generosity of the former, what I really remember is that she taught me to sew and cook. And the latter - that she played cards with me, took walks and talked to me. Priceless gifts.
Also, if your children are giving you presents and they ask what you want, ask for a couple of gift cards to Amazon.com or Target and use them to get small, after Christmas presents. Or make up coupons for gifts of yourself - offer to babysit, clean house, help put on a new roof - anything according to your abilities. Just be sure and be honest and carry through on all promises.

Probably around $1000.00 for gifts (big family) and all the extras (food, drinks, decorations, etc.), about $500.00.

It's an expensive time of year, that's for sure.

I'll spend about 1000 for everything. That includes family, friends and co-workers.
