Some bugs got in and I, in a moment op stupidity, squashed them, now I want to get inside the screen en clean it up. Does anyone know a safe way to open these things, because I'm scared I might damage the thing. Thanks.

Edit: Should I just discharge the capacitor with a screwdriver, then? If so, how do I identify the main one, as I imagine there are quite alot of them in there.

Be careful, the main capacitor of most monitors can hold a charge for 72 hours even after it is unplugged.
