Depends on the type you are looking for. I ride a motorcycle and the events , bars and restaurants we frequent have an obvious imbalance of men to women. Were I a chick ,thats where I,d look.

I met a cute guy in a pub (2 days after my divorce came through) in my 40's and we are now married (he has no baggage at all). My baggage was quite grown up luckily but I have plenty of friends who are finding it difficult to meet great guys mainly because they cant handle THEIR baggage which is usually ex wives, ex girlfriends and small kids.

They have had some success on internet dating, I would try it if I were every single again.

You'd have a job to find a man without baggage when you are in your 40s! Even teenagers have baggage nowadays. Are men in their 40s cute? Well my husband is sometimes, but he doesnt like being called cute! or sweet!

We are all over the place.

I spend time in church, at book stores, in the grocery. I travel, I trout fish.

The two best things you can do are:

1. Be the best person you can be. Be whole, complete, having something to offer a potential partner. So unpack your baggage, and deal with it in a responsible way, settling the matter long before you subject someone else to your personal drama.

2. Be out there, open to possibilities. Be where the guys are, hunting and fishing or sporting events, or sitting at the book store checking out a book and having a latte.

That guy who's balding, 5'11" with a 50 inch chest and 38" waist and maybe 10 pounds overweight may just be a "love machine" at the age of 41, able to go all weekend long, if that's your thing, or just loves a fall drive to the local wineries, a weekend at a bed and breakfast. Or he may want to go for a long weekend trout fishing in the mountains and wants to know if you'll clean your own fish. Will you hang with him at the car show, or do you expect that it's a one-way street, where you drag him to the malls, but won't go within 100 yards of anything he likes to do.

He may not look like George Clooney, but is probably more fun and more willing to give himself to you than many other men. He may be able to talk inteligently about all sorts of topics and could probably care less about Brittney and K Fed.

But you gotta be whole, healthy and largely baggage free to get to where most healthy guys will want you in their lives.

Be very careful of men over 40 without baggage. Either they've lived with their mothers all their lives - bad news, or they've been kicked out by their wives - more bad news.

Ask them for a letter of recommendation from either their mum or ex before you date them!
