No it should be a choice not a command. It's hard enough for the soldiers to be over in a war type situation on good attitude days but having to deal with someone that was forced to be there would just cause ALOT of incidents.

Well if they did, most of the people they draft would go AWOL because most Americans are not willing give their lives for that cause. So the government would have there work cut out for them trying to get those draftees over there. They can enforce this all they want it will only make the percentage of Americans that are sitting back just observing the war quietly to start a ruckus and I was always told its the quiet ones you have to watch!

"Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." Once people become too lazy & selfish to perform a duty for their country, the nation is doomed. Not everyone should be expected to risk their life for the freedom of others - but if participation in the milatary was expected (or even required), it would almost certain reduce the probability that we would get talked into wars that only benefit a small portion of the citizens. At the same time, we would not hesitate to go to war, united as a nation in our risks and rewards, if we are seriously threatened.

No. The kind of people that the military needs today is not cannon fodder -- it is highly trained folk who can use and maintain today's complex weapons systems, and you cannot build a cadre of these using draftees in for a two-year hitch. Not to mention the 13th Amendment.

I swear to God I hate America, I'm ready to leave the country. If they re-enstate the draft it's Canada here I come. This country is the worst it's been in hundreds of years and I'm embarrassed to say I'm from here.
