If I encounter a rude waiter or waitress, I usually ask if they are new. Sometimes it's nerves that makes them come across as being rude. If they tell me they are not new, then I know they are just plain rude and should not be doing that type of work. I might leave them a few pennies or a nickel instead of a real tip. Someone told me a long time ago that by not leaving a tip, they might just think I forgot to leave one. If I leave a few pennies, they will know I didn't like their service. I hate it when I'm dining alone and it takes the waiter/waitress forever to bring my check. They should always leave the check when the food is delivered to you.

This might sound totally offensive to some...but I will leave some change when the waiter or waitress is rude...it sends a more subtle message than not leaving anything at all...

Of course, I only do this if the waiter or waitress is indeed rude to me. If the service is slow this is often not their fault at all...and is usually the manager's fault for not providing adequate staffing...but show me some bad attitude and I will show you 26 cents (or something like that)...

No.

In general I tip even when the service isn't that good, but I make it a point to tip less or not at all for poor service and rude servers definitely don't get a tip and they get a complaint.

If you want to make sure they get the point about the service, tip something ridiculously low, like a penny. That shows that you just didn't forget, that you thought they sucked.

No. Tips are optional. I usually tip well because of my waitress days, but a rude waitress doesn't deserve extra cash.

I don't. I leave a generous tip unless they are rude and obnoxious. Why would I tip them for rude behaviour?
