Snapper makes a great self propelled mower. Check out the drive mechanism: solid, with bearings and thick steel. Stay away from the cheaper mowers with the little transmission boxes that power both wheels simultaneously: They last about 2 years. My first snapper went 12 years, mowing an acre lot. The engine gave out. I saved the drive mechanism from the old one as a backup.

Self propelled for that price will have to be a walk behind. I would go to a local Outdoor Power Equipment Dealer for better Service and forego the Big Box Stores.

i would have to say John deere makes the best riding lawn mower, but the best self propelled lawn mower is made by honda.

I got my reconditioned Honda for about $150 on sale. Check at Home Depot and when they have too many, they sometimes do a 1 day sale of the reconditioned ones.
