this is not good. anytime anything turns purple means there is a lack of oxygen in the blood. go to the er, or doctor now!!! there is deffinetly something wrong.

His whole belly or is it his belly button? If the belly button is pruple and it sticks out, he could have a hernia. Take him do the doctor or the hospital ASAP!

I must admit I don't have a newborn, but I would definitely take him to the doctors or even the ER if he can't breathe well.

I think you should get him to the hospital right away. If it's in your hands to prevent any further health problem's then you should act upon your instinct if you feel there is something wrong then listen to your instinct and take him right away.

TAKE HIM TO THE ER NOW...these are possible signs of a congenital heart defect. (my son has one)
