Hey. first of all - college is nothing like high school. Not at all. I go to UF and at least here, it's the best experience I could ever have hoped for. You can study things that are interesting to you, with professors who actually care about you and your thoughts on the subject.

Also, there is so much free time to do anything that interests you. I feel as though coming to college was just learning to be independent and focus your life on your interests.

You can meet so many people with similar interests too by joining student organizations.

I think you should give it a try. I mean if you don't like it - then you can look for another way. One of my friends did her first semester and hated it. So she's hiking the AT in February and plans to write a book about it when she's done.

Theres something out there for everyone - but I think college is a great place to begin searching for whats for you.

Lots!!!
There are many trades that women are now getting into which pay very well. If you are motivated and like to work you should try an apprentice position as a Union Plumber or Electrician.
And you can look into computer work if that is your field of interest. Most importantly find something you have a knack for or interest in, perhaps health care, they need nurses everywhere and thought that takes school, it is a Great field of study and nothing like high school. You say you hate school, but that may be due to the current situation. When it's for what you want and by your own choice that helps.
Go for it and don't be afraid of hard work, it will pay off before you know it!
Good Luck, and don't give up, persistence is more important than grades!!!! ;-)

There are alternatives to college such as trade schools and apprentiship programs but it's not a good idea to rule out college because of fear. It's only natural to fear it when you already hate school. I hated school too, but college is nothing at all like high school.

You choose your professors, your classes and class schedule, your lunch, breaks between classes, even the days or evening you attend. You're the adult. Unlike high school, nearly everyone in college is there because they want to be, not because they have to.

Before you rule it out completely, visit a community college in your area. Go to the administration office and ask about a tour or just pick up some brochures and class schedules. Then, if it still doesn't look like it's for you, check in to some trade schools.

One more thing. If you're really afraid, you're not alone. Fear is universal. If you give in to fear, it becomes stronger and brings with it more fear of other things. But if you do what you fear, it becomes weaker and eventually vanishes. Facing fear makes you more bold and less fearful of new things.

Hating school is what you are supposed to do when you are in high school, when you mature a little bit it won't be so bad. There is always community college (not as stringent as regular college) there are trade schools. The most important thing is, even if you just want to be stable and not rich, if you don't have some sort of higher education you will not be able to get a decent job. Stay in school (hate it all you want) do your best, choose higher education and hang in there.....

I absolutely HATED high school. I didnt really want to go to college either, but I just applied and decided to try it out for a semester. I ended up staying, and realized it was a whole different life. You still have to study and work hard, but in the end, its something that you did for yourself and not something that the government required.

Perhaps try a community college in your area to see if you like that. There are some older people who will be attending, but not all of them will be older than you. You can get a general idea of what the campus life would be like, and you can get involved in various student organizations like poetry, art, etc. Not all greek sororities either.

At least give it a try - its totally different than high school.

You could learn a trade, such as machining, electricity, etc. Or you could do a short program in something like culinary or medical assisting that will only take two years. Ask your guidance counselor to give you a career interest inventory and then discuss with him/her how much schooling would be required of the things you want to do. Then you can make a fully informed decision about the best path for you.

College is so much better than high school. You will get to choose to study something that you are interested in. The general classes suck, but they are usually easy. Also, there is something to be said for having a well-rounded education, which the general classes will give you. You will need to know how to pronounce Tchaikovsky sometime, or know who he is, I promise!!! Getting a degree is so important, so don't be scared. Popularity and all the high school bullshit doesn't exist in college and it really is fun!

ive heard that college is completely different...and way fun. i'm gonna be going to college pretty soon too, and i'm scared. it's completely normal, but i once heard that "the things youre scared of are usually the most worthwhile." just stick it out, give college a chance, and if you hate it once you get there, then make the decision of whether or not to stay. don't completely rule it out until you give it a chance.

home school or on the job training.
you will need some skills though.
if there is a problem at school try to find a way to resolve it.
your time in school and the way you handle itdetermins how you will deal with diffeculties in later life.
