I just discovered a dark purple bruise on the side of my leg, just on the side where my knee is. I’ve not hurt my self so I don’t understand where this bruise has appeared from. Could this be a blood clot?

It could be. Or a blood vessel could have burst its no big deal I wouldn't worry about it if I was you.

No blood clots do not usually show up as a bruise. The only true way to diagnose a blood clot is with a doppler to check for blood clots. You have a bruise and obivously bumped your leg when you didn't remember doing it. As you get older you will find that get more bruises that you don't know how they got there. This is normal.

It's unlikely to be a blood clot - far more likely that you did injure yourself but didn't realise it at the time because it didn't hurt too much - maybe you just bumped into something or maybe you hit your leg on something while asleep.

Blood clots you generally can't see. If there is a big wound, it may produce a blood clot, but it's doubtful that you would see it even then.

If you had a blood clot in your leg, the area would be red, hot to the touch and extremely painful when you move it. So, it doesn't sound like a clot. Take a couple of aspirin to thin your blood (with food) twice a day for a few days and it should go away.

It's not a stupid question in the slightest. Yes, people who use wheelchairs can get blood clots but it isn't an automatic thing that is going to happen just because a person is in a wheelchair.

nomally clots in the legs are on the under side of the knee, and are warm, tender, and swollen. they usually occur after being active for long periods (like plane/car rides, hospital stays, etc) if you are worried call your doctor. not all blood clots fit the normal description.

A clot would most liely make ur leg warm, painful and swollen. MOST LIKELY JUST A BRUISE, BUT if it doesn't go away, or appears to be getting worse, go see a dr.

a spontaneous bruise should be checked out..it could indicate an abnormality of the blood eg low platelets....take a photo of it on mobile and make an appt with gp..show him the photo.
also he may ask if there is any blood disorders in the family..and any recent medication you have been using eg aspirin
