There is no automatic medical reason for you to remove your belly button ring during pregnancy. Most women do have changes of the belly button late in pregnancy, even women who are thin and fit--it kind of flattens out. While you may find that the ring gets uncomfortable as your tummy grows, you can always take it out later on if it bothers you. You also may want to ask your doctor or midwife what her policy is on this issue. Some practitioners request that you remove the ring temporarily during labor.

While many women feel beautiful during pregnancy, it can be an assault to one's body image. Holding on to those things that you enjoyed before pregnancy can help you remember who you are outside of your new role as mom-to-be. So if you want to keep the ring as part of your old identity, enjoy. You can respond to your body's changes if and when it becomes necessary.

Although they make flexible plastic rings to wear during pregnancy, almost every doctor will tell you to have this removed by the seventh month or your belly button ring could rip the skin due to stretching. On a lighter note, if the hole does close during this time, any good peircing artist will be able to use the same hole to reinsert the ring so as not to add scarring to your naval.

I think you should take it out, I'm only 11 weeks and I have taken mine out. When your belly starts growing, the skin that your belly ring is through will stretch and after you have the baby you'll have a nasty piece of dangly skin and you won't be able to wear a belly ring.

With a typical belly ring, once the belly starts to stretch the ring gets too small and will pinch your skin and could even rip the skin.

Luckily, some people have taken notice of this and they now sell extra long belly rings so you can flaunt your tummy jewelry throughout your entire pregnancy. :)

I would say that it would start to look funny the further you get in pregnancy!!! Also...you will get so much attention with your belly, trust me you dont want people staring at your belly button, and with the changes, it will stretch and the holes will get more noticable. I dont know...medically you do not have to take it out...but I would bc I would not want it to start lookin odd. I am all belly though...so it would look especially weird on me!!!

My doctor recommended I take mine out. I was planning on it once I got a little further. But, once your stomach start to get really large it gets uncomfortable and the hole begins to stretch around the ring (it looks very gross). My sister took hers out and once my niece was born (with a little work) she put it back in and didn't have to get it pierced again.

Good luck!

yes, it's recommended because it leaves a weird looking stretch mark (and I've got it). They make belly rings for pregnant ladies that are extra long.. that's all you need.

well, i'm 5 mos. i leave it out, but every night it put vaseline at the end, stick it in the hole and pull it out. that's just to make sure it's still open. but some times i'll wear it for a couple hours. i'm trying to keep it open for as long as i can. WE ALL KNOW HOW MUCH PAIN IT WAS TO GET IT. good luck and congrats.

if you get a big enough ring in your holes before they get streatched out, then you might be able to keep it in. I had one with my first pregnancy, and it was a small loop and did not have enough streach room. I eventually had to take it out and it never went back in. goodluck
