This animal is the size of a small dog, but looks distinctly like a rodent with the brown fur of a fawn, including the whitish circles on the fur. It's name sounds like "tempesquinckly."

Seems to be the paca, all right:

"It is called paca in most of its range, but tepezcuintle in Mexico and Guatemala."

That name sounds like what you typed.

It sounds like a paca, a larger relative of the guinea
pig. Its scientific name is Cuniculus paca. There
are other species of the genus Cuniculus, also.
They occur in Central and South America and are
favored as food items by the locals. There are
other related animals, such as the agouti and
capybara in the area but, if I remember correctly
the paca is the only one that is spotted.
