Does Environment Minister David Miliband no what he is talking about or any other ministers come to that when it comes to globale warming, how is putting up prices of fuel going to stop the increasing use of fuel. (it wont this is just another backdoor taxation rip off).
Should not goverments and nations be doing more to find allternitive energe sourses (yes they should be but are doing sod all about it ) they just try to blame us the consumer and seem to forget that it is there policy that have brought us to this dilemmar.
there are many allternitive solutions out there if only some one will take the first steps and get on with it, instead of ordering another enquire to look into the problem.(which never achieves any thing).
(example the diesal engine when first invented was designed to run on penut oil so why do they not do more to promote this.)
it all comes down to how much brown can get out of us for there politacal needs they don't give a toss about us really.

money makes the world go round, and money will still make teh world go around when most of the land has been reclaimed by the sea and the ozone layer is gone, people in power will ALWAYS be corrupt, and because of that they'll ALWAYS do whats best for themselves screwing the rest of us

When are people going to wake up and realise that global warming's a natural thing and isn't anything to do with us at all? Like Boonietech said, we're being pretty arrogant if we think we can control absolutely everything the earth does. I actually saw a post on another site the other day that said there are more earthquakes than ever and the reason for this is that the earth's plates are being disturbed by people drilling down beneath them - er, hello? The earth's plates have ALWAYS moved around and there's nothing anyone can do about that. Sometimes I wonder if that's the real reason why we insist on blaming ourselves for things like this: is it our way of trying to gain some form of control over a situation where we don't actually have any?

Of course, I agree that we should do as much as we can to help the planet out. However, the idea we've been sold for years - i.e. that we're completely to blame for global warming etc. - is a load of nonsense and shouldn't be listened to any more.

If the government won't do enough about it, that shouldn't stop you doing what you can yourself. As everyone starts to get the message about the risks of global warming, more and more people will get involved, making a bigger and bigger difference, which will force the government to do more and more. Prime examples are those states (like California) in the US which are ignoring the national government's refusal to sign up to the Kyoto protocol, and introducing their own environmental legislation.

Same goes with other countries. So what if we produce only 3% of the world's carbon emissions? The reason more isn't being done globally is because the industrialising countries are all saying they won't do more because the developed economies aren't doing enough. Someone's got to set a good example. Anyway, with all the proverbial that's going to hit the fan as the effects of global warming start kicking in, the low-carbon, energy-efficiency industry is going to be huge. Personally, I'd rather be a leader in that industry and corner a large share of the market ahead of any other nation, than lagging behind.

There are alternatives, however G. Brown will soon get his teeth into anything that is introduced.

I remember that years ago diesel was a cheap fuel. As the engines were introduced more and more into family vehicles, so the tax went up.

It would be the same with "peanut oil" Tax it because there is a shortage of peanuts.

It"s all about cash. If we like something and therefore buy it, Gordon will tax the bloody thing.

As I"ve said before our carbon omissions are about 3% of the Global total. If we reduce our omissions to zero, what difference will it make Globally -- absolutely none!!

Just the usual scaremongering from a control freak government.

They don"t care about us at all, look how they send pensioners to prison for refusing to pay the extortionate "increases" in council tax.

I"d like to see some of those fat lazy bastards in Westminster survive on a state pension, might reduce a few of their "double chins"

How about blaming the real culprit - The Sun. We humans are awfully full of ourselves if we think we can really affect something as large and powerful as our global weather systems. I myself will be glad to enjoy a milder winter and hot summers. And if the east and west US coasts are flooded, so much the better, maybe some of the kooks will float away.
