Darwin was obviously on crack.

The real reason we haen't evoloved to no longer have nipples is because not having nipples does not increase a mans chances of survival or replication.

It's the basics of evolution - a genetic modification has increase a species chances of survival or replication to lead to a genetic evolution of the species over time.

No nipples on men would actually have the opposite effect.

Case in point - A man is born with no nipples, he is less likely to replicate becasue a man with no nipples would be less attractive (becuase they are an abormality) so he will find it harder to find a girl and have kids. So the no -nipple gene is less likely to be passed on than normal nipple gene.

There's no point. Evolution is basically lazy. If it doesn't hurt you, or you can at least deal with it long enough to raise your kids, then there's no way to get rid of it. Men have nipples because originally they start out as female- that's just the way that fetus development works. Nipples are already being developed before the fetus gets the hormones necessary to put it on the guy track. Since they don't hurt the guy's chances for reproductive success, guys get nipples. This happens with a lot of stuff, and some of it a whole lot less pleasant. We still have wisdom teeth because our jaws used to be large enough to accomodate them. Now, they hurt like a mofo, but, even with impacted wisdom teeth, you're not going to die. If you don't die before you have kids and raise them, you pass that gene on. So, basically, if it doesn't kill you and it doesn't make you icky to the opposite sex, the species is stuck with it.

This sort of thing is actually a really good proof of evolution. No intelligent designer would make us so slipshod. We have spinal columns that are completely unsuited to bipedalism. Women tend to have knee problems and can die giving birth. And what's up with the appendix? Those things do kill people, though not enough to get them out of the gene pool. Creationism can't explain these things (okay, maybe the women dying in childbirth thing, but that's a really p!ssy thing to do to all women just to punish one). Evolution can- our spinal columns evolved on 4 legged creatures, which they work a lot better on, and women can blame our crappy pelvic construction on the shift from four legs to two, also. And the appendix was useful once, just not anymore.

I've seen some very impressive answers and all true, but I fail to understand why you think Darwin was on crack. He didn't have access to all the genetic info we now have, and to have written the work he did at the time he did was absolutely astonishing. If you look at the big picture, he did get the prime mechanisms correct, but it's the details we now are discovering. I find thoughtful observation and logical reasoning to be far more enlightening than just saying God waved His arms and it all happened. If we as a species had stayed in the bliss of our myths maybe a lot of us wouldn't be here today to diss the people who stepped out and actually looked and watched and tried to figure out how the universe really works.

Men have nipples because all fetuses begin female. Gender indicators do not appear until after the nipples have developed.
Evolution has not removed them because they are not disadvantageous. If a population of men who had mutated to be born without nipples and all the women wanted these men to have their babies, then perhaps the nipple-less men would become dominant. Evolution takes place when a mutation greatens one's chances to survive and reproduce. So, until this mutation becomes advantageous, either to natural or sexual selection, then men will continue to be born with nipples.

So, you think Darwin was on crack, do you? How does that excuse your appalling ignorance of evolution? You have been giving some good sites toward educating yourself, but I seriously doubt that anyone that has made such an ignorant crack ( pun intended ) about Darwin has the wit to appreciate them.

In the anatomy of mammals, a nipple or mammary papilla is a small projection of skin containing the outlets for 15-20 lactiferous ducts arranged cylindrically around the tip. The physiological purpose of nipples is to deliver to the infant milk produced in the female mammary glands during lactation. In the male, nipples are often not considered functional with regard to breastfeeding, although male lactation is possible. Mammalian infants have a rooting instinct for seeking the nipple, and a sucking instinct for extracting milk.

Mammals typically have an even number of nipples arranged bilaterally. In the primitive mammals (monotremes such as the platypus), the mammary glands empty onto the skin without a nipple.

In human anatomy, the two nipples are located near the center of the breasts, surrounded by an area of sensitive, pigmented skin known as the areola. The pigments of the nipple and areola are brown eumelanin (a brown pigment) and to a greater extent pheomelanin (a red pigment). The nipple and areola of males and females can be erotic receptors, or considered sex organs. Stimulation or sexual arousal can cause the nipples to become erect, due to the release of the polypeptide neurotransmitter oxytocin. Breastfeeding or exposure to cold temperatures often has this effect as well. Pregnancy and nursing tend to increase nipple size somewhat, and this increase may remain permanently thereafter. Pregnancy also increases the pigmentation of the nipples. Small non-striated myocytes (muscle cells) arranged cylindrically within the nipple are responsible for this erection of the nipples. Some persons also have adult breastfeeding relationships. In many women there are small bulges on the areola, which are called 'montgomerey bodies'.

Embryologically, nipples develop along the 'milk lines' which in humans extend from the axilla (armpit) down to the pubis (groin) on both sides. Other mammals such as cats and dogs develop more nipples along the milk lines, in number generally approximating the average litter size for that species, rounded up to an even number. Most people develop two nipples (one on each breast) but some have supernumerary nipples. Occasionally, these have lactiferous glands attached.

Sometimes, babies (male or female) are born producing milk. This, called 'witch's milk', is caused by maternal estrogens acting on the baby and is quite normal. Witch's milk disappears after several days

honestly, there's no purpose for male nipples. Nipples are meant for females, not adult males. the purely reason adult males have nipples is because everybody starts out as a lady contained in the womb, and by the time testosterone(or something else, i'm not confident) is released, the hormone that tells us to give up coming up a lady body and improve a male one fairly, nipples have already shaped, and our bodies are too lazy to ruin them, so that they purely loiter round for something else of our lives.

What is the disadvantage of nipples on men? There is no selective pressure to remove them. The energy to form them is obviously lower than the energy to evolve a second developmental template.

In times of extreme emergencies men are able to lactate in case the mother was killed or is unable to continue nursing. With all that is available to us they really are not required for this same purpose. They are still used as subliminal messaging when using body language when seeking sexual partner is concerned, as well as the pleasure aspect that is derived from their stimulation during copulation. They are in fact an aid in the arousal of the male in preparation for ejaculation. Remember there is a difference between ejaculation and orgasm. You can orgasm with out ejaculation. Look up tantra exercises.

Because old boy its only at the last moment that you end up a boy or a girl when the y or x chromosome comes into play so evolution is playing it safe and keeping nipples on all embryos

Nipples for all.
