Well Happy Holidays covers both Christmas and News Years. But I personally would like to hear Merry Christmas it sounds more cheerful!

Happy Holidays. It's nice and all-inclusive. Why should you only give holiday cheer to Christians? Season's Greetings is even better, since it in no way implies religion, so it's inclusive to athiests too. Isn't the point of the Season to show a little love? To everyone?

i would prefer to hear Merry Christmas, but as a sales clerk I would always say Happy Holidays so it would apply regardless.

WHAT!!!????!!!????

Did someone answer that there were holidays like CHRISTmas before CHRISTianity!!!!! the reason for the holiday is the birth of CHRIST.
I am not opposed to either one but if it's Christmas i like to hear Merry Christmas, if it's New Years, happy new year, and if it's Thanksgiving i like to hear Happy Thanksgiving. That's just me because i celebrate those holidays. But the generic Happy Holidays is just as sufficient, that is how i greet.

Although I celebrate Xmas I would have to say Happy Holidays, only because of all of the different cultures in today's society.

I don't really have a preference one way or the other..I just like a check out person to be polite and smile...Act as though I am not putting them out by buying things in their store and making them earn their pay check!!.....To me that is really annoying..

Happy Holidays, definitely.

It was a holiday long befire Christianity, and probably will be long after.

Solstice is the reason for the season.

Happy Holidays.

I celebrate the Solstice, not Christmas.
