Laptops are costly, sometimes you see them go down and sometimes you see them go up. The diffrence between a desktop and a laptop is there is virtually no competition for laptops. Toshiba, Dell,HP,Sony,Gateway,Emachine, These are large companies who are known and build laptops.
Unlike a desktop where any company can make the pieces sepreatley and you can add anything you want from any company Laptops are whole computer pieces in which the price is dictate by the demand of the laptop sales. You notice how near the school season despite the word "sale" the laptops are still pricy and also not fileld tih good specs, while the better laptop that offers more features cost alot more. Sometimes you do see them cheap. only because they are the old models and the companies want to remove there access inventory so they can build new and better ones.
I notice a new laptop company,, I cant remember the name but I want to see how it fairs up against these big companies. The proof of the cost is in the pieces you want to buy. Look at any comptuer site for Laptop hard drives or Laptop RAMs it is very expensive.

Vista will require a laptop to have at least 1 gig of ram, and a dual processor. Most of the laptops I have shopped for recently, come with a coupon to upgrade to Windows Vista free or they say that the computer is Vista ready. I would expect the price of laptops to rise slightly.

it will surely affect the price tag. Vista needs for of your hard drive space, high RAM, graphics, etc. which will directly impact your budget anything by about 5-15% on an average basis taking into view the current market trands and rates of each device.

No, I think laptop prices are on the way down and the operating system shouldn't matter. For instance I just got an HP with one gig of memory and it was only $700. Also has faster processor than my previous one. So more bang for your bucks.
