Because people will pay it. My phone was free, though I did not have to sign up for long term commitment. The battery has been great - I've had it about two and a half years now and it still works great. It would have cost $9 without the plan. It's a SAMSUNG SGH T-209. Don't buy a Rolls Royce of phones if you don't want to.....

I noticed in Superdrug today they were doing cheap pay as ya go phones, Sainsburys is always a gooden n' all

most supermarkets now do really cheap phones or even the proper phone shops you can pick a basic pay as you go for £20 now from almost anywhere.
