I am disapointed in the person who wrote in "why are you still breastfeeding" Do you know we are only one of the few countries who say its okay to breast feed for less then 2 years!, most countries look at the 2 year mark like we look at the 3 month mark! Anyway, first off Good job nursing, let your child decide when to stop, toddlers will usually ween themselves, leaving the bed time feeding for last, and sometimes they need your guidance to break that one. As far as your question goes, breastfeeding usually stops ovualtion for up to 6 months, although in a few women, the may need to stop all together before it resumes. With both my children I started ovulating just 6 weeks after baby! And I breast fed my 1-st for 18 months, and am currently nursing baby no. 2 (9 mo.). You can go to your health food store and but Red Rasberry tea, this supports your uterus and is safe in both pregnancy and breastfeeding, also if your not too shy, ask the person at the counter what else you can saftly try. Keep taking, or start taking your prenatals again too, you havent been getting a period but you can becaome pregnant before you get your first period, treat your body like you are pregnat and enjoy the time your not. By the way your soctor should be a little more supportave, the last thing we need is a pat on the back saying "your fine" when you want another baby and nothing is happening, I would look into changing doctors, there are a variety of reasons a woman doesnt ovualate, some things to look into would be PCOS, endometrosis, and hormonal imbalances, look up info on those so you can rule them out, if one sounds like its you, bingo.. bring it up at your next appointment for further testing. Next- RELAX if you are strssing over baby, then your body might be defnding its self from pregnancy, enjoy lovemaking with your husband, have sex frequently, and test every other month, or if you really think you may be, then take a test, but other then that it's a mtter of timing both your and Gods

Awh baby girl that's should be the least of your worries. Everybody wants a healthy weigh baby. My mom is big-boned and I'm 22 weeks pregnant with my third child. I wish I could gain more weight my son was a preemie and he was 4lbs4ozs and my second son was 6lbs even so I dnt think that is always a factor. I was much more satisfied with my 6lb baby than my 4lb baby my baby and your doctor would be happy. Just make sure you eat healthy dnt dare think about starving yourself or anything like that, the baby needs food and you need to take ine enuff food to keep you and baby healthy and satisfied. Only thing I would recommend is than you make healthy choices when eating so you wnt over gain while pregnant. Its something that skinny and obese woman can easily experience while pregnant. And a lot of the time it comes from not eating healthy. It could pose health risks to you and baby. I hope you get the results you want out of this situation. Good luck baby girl

It's probably the breast feeding. I nursed my first 3 babies for 9 months, 12 months, and 14 months respectively and each time got my period back only after I completely stopped. And I currently am nursing an 8-month old ... no period yet! I think you're probably fine!
Good luck!

What you are experiencing is perfectly normal. Breastfeeding is a well known way of putting off your return to fertility following the birth of a child. For more information read Breastfeeding and Natural Child Spacing available from the Couple to Couple League.
You also may want to contact La Leche League.

Definitely the breastfeeding is causing this problem, nature doesnt want you to get pregnant while you're still nursing a baby. If you want to concieve then you will need to cut breastfeeding, cut ttwo times a day first and see if periods return.
Unfortunately some people have to stop breastfeeding entirely before they start ovulating again.

If you haven't had a period you likely are not ovulating (though you *may* be). You may still be experiencing Lactational Amenorrhea. It could also be your bodies way of telling you you are not ready to bear another child. Try taking some herbs such as Red Raspberry Leaf and eat lots of leafy greens to nourish your reproductive organs.
Both taking the temperature and the pee strips as well as the LENS work well so long as you use them properly.
Best of luck.

It is the breast feeding, specifically having something to do with how the release of Leutinizing Hormone is affected by breast feeding. I cant remember all the specifics, but looking up info about that should give you a good place to start researching.

With breastfeeding, you may not have a period until you stop. The hormones produced while breastfeeding can stop ovulation. Some people use breastfeeding as a form of birth control.

Good for you with still nursing. i am still nursing my 18mo old, only 3 times a day and still no cycle here either. i am going to try cutting another nursing and see what happens. i really don't want to wean so we will have to see what happens. You could also try vitex. i have been taking it for 2 months now but it takes a while to work. it is supposed to balance your hormones and decrease prolactin which is stopping ovulation. i hope it starts to work for me soon. good luck to you.
