I lived there for years, and never felt more creeped out by the sheer arrogance and obvious two class mentality. If it wasn't for the Hispanic influx and the obvious fact that the trashy white neocon elite constantly exploit them, I doubt that place would function.

Not every Texan is that way thankfully, but there is a Crawford Tx mentality that prevails beneath the surface and has for years.

Creepy place, hostile weather and natives who love to exploit outsiders. If you are not born there and do not share the prevailing political beliefs of the majority, you will get royally fleeced.

"lived" is past tense. meaning that I thankfully do not reside there anymore, and, even more telling, I would never choose to live there again.

Once again...I will say that not ALL TEXANS are that way, but it is impossible to deny that there is not a elitist mentality that exists there, often by those in political control, and expoused and defended by many wannabe's that live in that repressive enviroment.

I like the way you say not all Texans because you have a good point. The state of Texas is so big that there are a variety of mentalities depending on the region that you live. North Texas, West Texas, East Texas, and South Texas. I love the South Texas Area and do not want to live in the other parts. Some parts can really give the rest of the state bad vibes due to some other person's experiences, such as yours and I am not saying that you are wrong because it is how you feel and that is OK. But when you have somebody with the name "KINKY" running for governor, that is just material Letterman and Leno to use and bring Texas down even further. When I was in the Navy, I was stationed in VA. and when somebody said, "you must be from Texas," I realized that it was not a compliment. Well, I can't speak for everyone here in Texas and I won't, it depends also on the region where you are. Some places are very friendly and some are just downright rude, even to their own. I apologize for your rough experience, but if you want to come back again, try South Texas...like San Antonio or Corpus Christi. There is even South Padre Island. Also I don't feel repressed by anyone or exploited where I live. I have great opportunity and I am doing just fine where I am at. I am proud to be Texan because I love it here. There should not be anything wrong with that. I know lots of peopl that are not originally from Texas here at the Univerisity that I attend and they can tell you that they love it here too. Like I said...it just depends on the region you are in.

I don't agree with your overall view of Texans or Texas. I will say that in larger cities, you are not treated as you would be in say a small town. No one will wave hello to you as a friendly gesture. But you go to far when you state Trashy White Neocon Elite constantly exploit Hispanic.
I too lived there for years and met my husband in a Large Texas City. Maybe you just didn't met the right people, or only subjected your self to the wrong class of people.
And if you would like to be treated better in future, remember what your mother always taught you: Never discuss religion or Political beliefs. Keep opinions to your self if you can't find the nice things to say and you will be surprised when you don't actually feel your foot in your mouth. A closed mouth gathers no foot. That's just good advise.

I've observed something similar to what you're describing -- and it's far worse in (some) Texans from what I've seen than in New Yorkers or from anywhere else. My experience is that New Yorkers are mostly in a rush, while Texans make it personal. And that person up top who says that people from Vermont are elitist, those must be transplants 'cause they sure ain't real Vermonters.

I don't have enough personal experience to have a rock-solid opinion about Texans, but I haven't seen anything to contradict your statements.

I'm sorry but I have to say that I love Texas and I LOVE Texans! I dig the way they're so proud to be from Texas! We should all be so proud.
I once had a boyfriend who was from Ennis, TX and he gave me a waffle iron that makes waffles in the shape of the great state of Texas! I can't eat one without giggling!

I live in Dallas and I couldn't agree more. I have lived in Tucson and Chicago and Bridgeport (CN) and I have never experienced people like I have here.

Texans are scary. There are some normal people, but that is few and far inbetween.

No more so than the types like that from everywhere else I have lived. If it is so bad, why have you stayed, it always amazes me that people will post here like they are living in hell, but refuse to pack their garbage and move somewhere else.
