How did pain come to be known as "the fifth vital sign?"

In America, there has been a recent campaign to treat pain as the fifth vital sign. The idea was launched in 1995 by James Campbell, the president of the American Pain Society. Just as the four traditional vital signs, temperature, respiration, pulse and blood pressure, must be charted, American hospitals are now obliged to assess pain in their patients, too.

Study and learn self hypnosis. That will relieve you of any pains. When fighting in a war in Korea as a young man of 17, I was horribly wounded. Had a piece of my skull bone blown off and my back broken in 6 places and I lost all my reproductive organs. I was in a coma for 9 months I was in pain every waken minuet. I was finally well enough to go home, but I had to stop off in Japan and I met a very good dr that taught me seft hypnosis as there were no pain killers strong enough to releive the pain. But I found even then I had not much of a life being asleep all the time. It was the same as the pain killers, being asleep. I was ready to give up on that, when I had some memorys of a former life. I studied that much and found I have had memorys of many former lives.

Physical pain is hopefully temporary. Emotional pain can last a lifetime and that is more fearful to me.
