My acting school has auditions comming up in January for Sleeping Beauty I'm not very familiar with the play... anyway I was wanting to ask what a good audition song would be for trying out to be one of the fairies. I'm guessing that they would be singing a saprano role. I'm a 2nd but can sing most saprano parts. I'm thinking about singing Popular from Wicked but It is a little overdone... Any not overdone suggestions? Tell me if you think popular is a good choice to plz!

For starters, Bippity, Boppity, Boo is from Cinderella.
I would NOT sing Popular, you are right in thinking that it is overdone. I would look at classic Musical Theatre songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein or Lerner and Lowe. Make sure you choose a song that fits your voice and personality. Look at, I ENJOY BEING A GIRL, from Flower Drum Song. That is a great song for a second SOPRANO. It is fun and not too hard.

I even have auditioned pupils for over 25 college musicals. that's my opinion which you will possibly desire to in no way sing something that's no longer a minimum of two decades previous. i'm no longer that woman" has basically been performed by the character in depraved, or an exceedingly modern-day recording, meaning you're competing against a expert. you besides mght run the threat of being between the to sing the comparable music. seem for an identical character to the only your daughter might prefer to be in this practice. seem in 20 year previous musicals. stable success

You should NEVER sing a song from the play that you are trying out for!!!!! I wouldn't do "Popular" either. . .you're right, it's overdone, too "pop-y", and not good for showing of your range. What about "If I Were a Bell" from Guys and Dolls? It's the perfect range, it's light, pretty, charming and relatively simple. Good Luck!

Popular is fun, however I really suggest something that's not over done. I would definately look up "The Last Five Years" There is an amazing song in that with a girl that is actually auditioning. It's really funny and it can prove whether or not you can belt notes.

The song I remember the fairies singing was bippety-bopety-boo (spelling??). Not a real difficult piece, but upbeat--so I would look for something that has qualities that are similar.

Here's a link to a couple of Disney songs you can listen to that might do the trick:

Popular isnt a good audition piece. It doesnt show your voice off very well, it is more of a character and cutsie song. (not to mention way over done and botched by tons of girls)
Here are some not too "popular" soprano songs you can do(and midis!) :
And this is my Beloved (Kismet)
