I am shopping for a new wall clock online and I notice that some descriptions point out that the clock has a "floating dial" and I have no idea what that means.

A floating dial means the face of the clock is "cut-out" and not solid as in most clocks. This way, the background color of your wall will show through inside the face of the clock, making it look like the numbers and the rim are "floating" on the wall.

Hope this helps!

A lot of the time people don't literally mean that the clock is 'slow' or 'fast'. For example if my watch was 10 minutes ahead of everybody else's, then someone might tell me my watch '10 minutes fast'. It doesn't necessarily mean it's running at a faster rate than everybody elses, it just means it's 10 minutes out. Of course if you've got a dodgy battery or something then a clock can run faster or slower - but people don't tend to synchronise watches and measure it over 24 hours... that would be sad!
