Hi Jim kev here sounds like you may have other user accounts
running in the background that are not visible to you when you log off. I have a great little programme that you could download for free

Its free.
Try closing all your programs then pressing Control + Alt + Delete to bring up the Task Manager every time just before you shut dosn.
Click the Applications tab and see if any programs are listed as running there and what they are.
Once you find out you can try re-installing it to see if that helps.

A program has frozen, or wasnt closed properly when shutting down. Also sometimes java has that affect.

Its got to be because of a software that is running in your taskbar. Try to exit all the software that's running in the taskbar and then try to shut down your computer.
