The world has always been sexi9st. Even the word "history"(his story) is male dominant. I think it should be changed to herstory.

Recognizing that men and women are different is not the same thing as sexism. There are plenty of valid reasons for our differences, and as Maurice Chevalier used to say, "Viva la differance!" (OK, French majors, I know it's probably spelled wrong.)

Differences are the sorts of things you can't say which is superior and inferior without a common standard. So, for example, you might use the standard of "taken seriously in history," and count the number of people mentioned in a history textbook. Chances are there are many more men than women. So what? Most of those men got famous because they had a lot of support in what they did, most often from their wives, mothers and daughters.

Or you could take the standard of "considered to be a good person," in which case you will note that many more men than women are considered villains, and many more women than men are considered saintly.

You could take the standard of "successful in making money" or "spends money well," and again have a male/female difference. You could try measuring who does better on standardized tests, such as the SAT and the GRE. There you might have females better in both vocabulary and math, or maybe males are still better at math. Compare tests of strength to tests of endurance. Check out the differences in which parent a child prefers to be with under various circumstances.

The fact is, we are all different, male and female. Some people fit very neatly the old-fashioned traditional division of labor, and some are quite different. My Steve was good with cars, but that didn't make me a good cook: he was better than me at that, too. But I was better than him at sewing (traditional), and also at chess (not traditional).

No, it should not be changed to her-story. We don't need to make such a specialized history general to the population. We need to stop playing games with the origins of words, and concentrate on the substance: there are many wonderful women in our history, and they need to be recognized as individuals. And there are many important contributions made by anonymous women, just as there are many important contributions made by anonymous men.

Yes, yes. We're sexist. Yes, yes. Gotcha.

You're taking a very feminist view. Our past has been dominated by men, with few exceptions of powerful women (Scottish women warriors, etc). Because of this past, we cannot delete the unjust attitudes towards gender, sexual orientations, race, religion, etc.

Using history, especially pointing out the HIStory of it, is incorporating our past that cannot be changed. Changing the word to HERstory, still not PC, would not trying to cover up history instead of embracing and learning from it.

If it were "herstory," then it would be sexist against males, and that wouldn't be fair, either. You bring up an interesting point, though.

I think this is a dumb point of view, by the way the word History has one "S" therefore its not His-story its..."Hi Story!" Story could be a name :P

yeah, but his-story, it's just that history that's how it use to be, but these days women have come toward the front line, and took a step up in society.

i imagine it relies upon on what percentage everybody is calling questions mutually as you - there are cases even as an similar questions stay on the first web page for a lengthy time period yet even as that is busy on the following they could purely be on the first web page for a couple of minutes...if that and maximum clients do not complication clicking onto the second one, third web page etc.... :-)

Wow,

You really need somethig else to do in life.

So it must be womens fault that we have Herpes then, if we use your example---"her"pes

Damn women.

And it must be your fault that my great grandfather was a "her"mit.

And I can blame you for all the deaths and addictions to "her"oine.

Get a life and stop being so sexist.
