So i am terriffied about having another, and considering not having it.

What should i do? Has anyone else found it this painful?

Please help me. Thankyou.

No, Pelvic Exams shouldn't be excruciatingly painful.
There might be some pulling or the doc forgot to heat up the speculum if, it is made out of medal. Be sure to have them warm it up for you. You might have had an inflammation of your vagina called vaginitis, this could account for the pain.
It is not the most pleasant experience but you need to also relax your pelvic muscles. I would discuss this with your practitioner, so your next experience is more positive.

A couple things come to mind; one is whether the doctor who did the pelvic was being as gentle as he/she could, or whether they were being a bit rough. If they weren't being gentle-and moreso if you're a virgin-your vagina may not have been 'ready' for the speed or pressure of the exam, causing the pain. Insufficient lubrication of the speculum (with water) or the gloved hands (with water-based lubricant) can also be a problem.

It could also be vaginismus-spasms in the muscles of the vagina that are very strong and that make penetration (Sex, pelvic exams) horribly painful or even impossible. Vaginismus can be either caused by physical (overactive muscles in the vaginal wall, skin problems in the vagina) or psychological (former sexual assault, fear of pelvic exams, memories of previous pain in the vaginal area) factors-or a mix of both.

You have a couple of options. First, you could defer your pelvic exam for a few weeks and before that, ask for a 'conference' or 'consult' appointment with your doctor. Explain to them the severity of pain you felt and ask if they have any suggestions to make this time better. By having the appointment to talk to them before the day of your pelvic exam, you may not feel as vulnerable, as you will be fully clothed and able to talk to them with out the exam hanging over your head.

If the doctor pooh-poohs your concerns, is upset or tells you 'that's just how it is' or something similar, then it's time to find another doctor. If he/she is understanding and offers suggestions to help you hopefully feel less pain this time, then re-make your appointment and try some of the suggestions they give before you go to the appointment.

You could also change doctors right away and sit down with the new doctor and explain your concerns. Sometimes just a different office with different people may make you feel more at ease.

If you want, you are allowed to bring one other person into the exam room with you-a friend, spouse, parent-whoever. You could also ask that the nurse from the clinic be in the room with you. A bit of distraction may help you feel more comfortable and help reduce the pain.

As you're getting ready for your pelvic exam, take slow, gentle breaths, in through the nose and out through your mouth. Picture all the muscles of your lower body relaxing and the exam going smoothly and with only minor discomfort. This may help to try and reduce the impact of the negative images in your head-the memories from the last painful exam.

The other thing you can try is to get yourself a little bit sexually excited half an hour or so before your exam (think about a boyfriend/lover, or something that makes you feel excited)-maybe on the commute to the clinic. This will increase fluids in your vagina and might help increase lubrication and make the exam less painful.

If this is a repeated problem, and especially if it also occurs when you have sex or try to use a tampon, it is most likely vaginismus and it can be treated, either with home therapy or with the help of the doctor.

Good luck!

I guess the results of the last exam were normal?
Pelvic exams are often uncomfortable, but not as bad as you describe. It sounds like there could have been a muscle spasm.
Some doctors have a gentler technique than others. Perhaps you could ask around and find a doctor with an especially gentle touch.

There aren't any needles in touch. The well-being care specialist will use a speculum it really is lubed up and positioned into your vagina. It has 2 jaws which even as the speculum is opened will carry your vagina open so as that he can look interior to envision that is all healthful. he will likely insert one or 2 palms to experience your cervix even as urgent down on your abdomen consisting of his different hand so as that he can experience your inner organs. If he does a pap smear (cervical smear) then he will use a lengthy swab like a cotton bud to take a pattern of cells out of your cervix. you may want to experience mild soreness and once you've a smear done, you've gotten some mild recognizing (that is not odd), so take a panty liner to placed on afterwards.

Are you sure everything went the way they should on your first exam? No foul play? Quack examiner? 'Cos pelvic exams shouldn't be synonymous to a dental procedure at a dentist office.
