Human relationships are wrought with conflict. The trouble I see with western society is that so few understand that staying married and building a successful marriage takes work, wisdom, time, and effort.

Jumping from relationship to relationship doesn't work because wherever you go, there you are. In other words the problems you had in your first marriage will follow you into the rest of your romantic relationships.

The key is to work on yourself to learn to effectively communicate and share your whole self in a loving way with your spouse, even when it isn't easy. Nothing worthwhile ever is.

Western society is all about instant gratification. Everyone wants what they don't have and don't feel they should have to work for it. We don't teach our kids the value of work. Too many people get married for love, when love alone will not sustain a relationship. Actually, I should say, too many people get married for infatution, I doubt many understand what love is.

Yeah, what you say would work if we all lived in a perfect world. But, we don't.

Too many people misrepresent themselves before getting married. That kind and doting person can reveal that they are abusive and controlling once the rings are on the fingers. People change as the years pass, their interests and desires change as well.

Some people get into marriage for the wrong reasons, and some are just lied to from the start. Thank goodness there is divorce so that you get another chance to not make the same mistake.

I agree but people these days don't want to do anything that is hard or takes a little work. Most people would much rather take the easy way out of most situations. That is why the divorce rate is something like 1 out of 2 marriages will end in divorce.

People in general are too quick to give up on marriage. Marriage isn't easy but it takes two to make it work. Some people are too quick to condemn divorce. While it is not the ideal solution divorce is a necessary thing in many cases.

I think we want instant gratification.

Speaking as one who didn't give up, but got left by an unfaithful woman, I would say that the problem is unrealistic expectations.

Women have the "Barbie" mentality where they should be treated like a princess. Yet many of those same women are unwilling to treat their men like prince's or kings.

Men too have an unrealistic expectation. Many men expect their wives to be porn stars, willing to go in a nanosecond, and cheesy dialog and music provided.

I think both genders need to work, yet I'd like to point out that 2/3rds of divorces are filed by women, yet men and women are cheating in equal numbers. (You don't think men are cheating with other men do you?)

So, from my limited point of view, plus the stats on divorce, it seems women are the ones who are more likely to give up on a marriage than are men.

We are a throw away society. We throw away perfectly good food, clothing, old people and marriages.

However, this problems in marriage are not isolated to the western cultures. There are others that condone beating, raping and killing wives in order to control them.

I think its sad how marriage is undervalued...but the truth is, we are all about ourselves. This is a good and bad thing. We want whats best for us, wether its our job, friends, clothes, or marriage. Its sad that so many don't work it out like they should, but they are looking at the best interest for themselves. Most of the time its selfish...

Compared to how people live in other countries and how women are known to not have any rights and looked down upon, us Americans aren't going to put up with that ****. Label us however you want, we don't care.
