Democrats for reinstating it, or republicans for getting us into this situation?

It does take two to tango. But I am going to be very pissed at Democrats (I am one) if they pull this stunt. They have talked one way for years, and now appear poised to do the opposite? -- Or is it just another 1) GOP fear and smear job against Democrats, prompted by their recent congressional upset or 2) another historic repeat of a scenario we know so well: GOP messes things up, paints the country into a corner, then leaves the Democrats to clean up their mess?

I need more information.

There won't be a draft tomorrow. The soonest Rangel is planning on reintroducing the bill is January, with the new congress. It has to be debated in committee which would have to approve it's being sent to the full house for a vote. After that it has to go through the same process in the senate. If the bill won't pass in either house without bipartisan support and even then the president can still veto it.
I believe that Rangels true intention in reintroducing the bill is to force a serious examination of our troop strength in light of current and potential threats and to evaluate the toll taken on the military by our presence in Iraq.

If there was no war in Iraq then the need for a draft wouold be eliminated. However universal service to our country is not a bad idea, I do wonder though since all the equality thing if women should be drafted as well?

Blame me. I support the Iraqi war and have been trying to get a draft implemented for 18-20 years olds male and female.

Bush's decisions would be the ones ultimately leading to a draft.

The terrorist, they were the ones who attacked us and provoked us into this. Rangel is trying to give us a win and I can respect that, the reps had to do what they did because of the twin tower attacks. Now, will the terrorist blame their leaders when they start realizing the US has been fighting with one arm and is about to start getting serious?

No question, the democrats. We do not in any way shape or form need a draft. It is a political gesture that is unworthy our consideration. The all volunteer military is the best check and balance we could ever have.

The administration for fabricating an excuse for us to be in Iraq in the first place.

Yes all of congress voted on going, but you must remember that the administration lied to them as well.
