Most universities and colleges consider this practice to be "academic dishonesty." This is because you are supposed to learn something different from each class, do X amount of work for each class (just as all other students are doing), and you are supposed to make an honest effort to fulfill the requirements from each class on its own terms.

Some institutions allow students to hand in the same paper in order to fulfill the requirements of two classes, but usually this can ONLY be done with the specific consent of both professors, and the assignment is generally lengthened (or otherwise complicated) so that the student will still have to do the same amount of work as any other student taking both classes would have to complete.

Bottom Line:
Before you do such a thing, consult your student handbook, and speak with both of your professors. If you tried to do this without making the proper arrangements, you could get charged with academic dishonesty, which often carries severe penalties, ranging from failing grades to expulsion.

Definitely check your school's policy. You don't want to make a serious mistake like that if you don't have to. I know that I have used papers that I've written for more than one class. However, I used it as a base for the new paper and sort of built off of it. I never submitted the same exact paper twice. So if you think it was a great paper, then go through and make some changes and take some of the better parts out of it to create an even better paper.

It wouldn't be plagiarism because you aren't taking credit for something that someone else did, because you did it (as long as you really did it yourself). However, most schools don't allow papers to be used more than once. However, you could add a little more information and change it up a bit.

It depends on your school's policies. The university I am attending doesn't allow it and it's clearly stated in the student manual. Find out what your school's policy is.
