Will the boy be color blind? Why or why not?.
**PLEASE HELP ME I DONT GET IT.**

No. The gene is carried on the X chromosome. But it is a sex based trait. The father passes a Y chromosome to his son. The gene for color blindness has to come from the mother, she is the one who gives the X chromosome.
If the father and son where both color blind, it would be just due to coincidence.

His chances are very strong that he won't be color blind, because he would inherit his X chromosome from his mother only. He could only be color blind if she carried the gene for it.

Lozatron - sorry but a boy cannot have 2 X chromosomes. That would make him a girl.

You don't know for sure.

Since the father only donates a Y chromosome to his son, the son will not get the gene from his father. So Dad being color blind is not a factor in whether or not the son will be color blind.

So it is all on the Mother. If the Mother's X chromosome has the gene than the boy will be color blind. If the Mother's chromosome doesn't have the gene the boy will have normal vision.

As long as the mother has no history of color blindness, the boy will not be color blind. He gets his X chromosome from his mother and his Y from his father. If the X from the mother does not code for color blindedness, he will not be color blind.

Color blindness is a recessive gene. the two chromosome must have this gene as a boy inherit the X gene from the mother, it has no chance to inherit this blindness. The woman is a transmitter of this anomaly

All the above answers are o.k.BUt the color blind gene is carried by only mother"s x chromosome and father contributes y chromosome,in the universe no male is cl our blind. B UT it is not the case.Here comes the role of mutations and cytoplasmic inheritance which can explain certain conditions.

The boy gets one X chromasome from his mother, and one from his father. In order to be colourblind, both of his x chromasomes have to be "colour blind".

So - if his mom has a colour-blind "X" then he will be color blind - but if she doesn't then he won't be.

Going forward - if he isn't colour-blind, he will have one colour-blind X and one non-colour-blind X. So if he has children with a woman carrying the colour-blind X his child has a 50/50 chance of being colour-blind itself.
