There is no meaning, it is a feeling. If you don't get that feeling you won't get football.

If you really want to know about it, there is a book called Football for Dummies.
It's not very hard to understand, especially if you start watching it pretty regularly. Basically, you have the offense and the defense. The offense gets four tries to move the ball 10 yards, which are called downs. When they say 2nd and 3, they are on their second try and have 3 more yards to go. Now, if they get to their fourth down and try to go for the remaining yards, and make it, they get another first down, which begins the four tries all over again. If they don't make it, it's called a turn over on downs and the other teams offense comes out and takes the ball from exactly where it is. Most teams end up punting on a fourth down. They kick the ball to the other team, so they end up furter down the field.
The defense just tries to stop the other team. If a defensive player tackles the quarterback while he has the ball, it's called a sack. And the offense loses a lot of yards from that, so that's bad.
A touchdown is worth 6 points, and then the team's kicker gets a chance to kick for an extra point, which is just 1 point. Or they could go for a two point conversion, which is when a player would have to catch the ball or run the ball into the end zone, which would give them 2 points. If a team gets close to the end zone, but can't make a score in their 4 tries, they can kick a field goal, which would give them 3 points.
I hope this clarifies some of it for you. You may not really understand what the commentators are talking about until you watch a lot of it.

Its americas sport if you dont belive me look at all the hype that sorrounds the super bowl its like a national Holiday. Watch it with friends and family with some chips and salsa. If you dont care put a little bet on one team in the super bowl and watch it when that team your betting on gets a touchdown get excited cause your that much closer to winning some money and thats how football fans feel when thieir team gets a touchdown. But instead of money its the joy of knowing thier team in their town is the best in the world.

What don't you get? Care to be a little more specific?
You have a team of 11 trying to move the ball at least 10 yards against 11 other guys. And they have four plays (tries, or "downs") in which to do it. If they get the "first down," then they get four more downs to try for at least 10 more yards.
There are lots of ways to try to move the ball that distance, though the two basic are running (or "rushing") and passing. You basically try to mix it up to keep the defense guessing and improve your chances of having success against them.
There are countless details beyond that, but that should at least give you a basic overview.

I don't "GET IT" either...near as I can figure out, it has something to so with big men getting the s..t kicked out of them...other men watch on the side, getting some thrill out of looking like a jerk, and I suspect some woman just like the look.
