I keep hearing arguments against gay maarriage but I cannot find anyone to answer some questions I have about the arguments.

If marriage is so sacred then I am wondering when the ammendment to ban divorce and make adultery punishable by prison time will be voted on?

If marriage is about reproduction then I was wondering why sterile heterosexual people are allowed to marry and why heterosexual couples can marry and choose not to have children? Should we ban sterile marriage and make it a requirement to have children if you are married?

If marriage is about kids having both a mother and father then why is it legal to have single parents? Even if we do allow divorce shouldn't we make it a law that the parents have to stay together so the kid has both a mother and father?

If marriage "is the way it has always been" then when will we dissolve all inter-racial and inter-faith marriages since previously marriage was NEVER inter-racial or inter-faith?

serious question here

snvffy: If you feel that way then please answer the very 1st question brought up about divorce.

jiggy phish: Good point I never thought of that.

I guess to I would say the decent thing to do is split marriage and legality. People could get married by whatever religion but it would not count legally..the couple, hetero or homo, would need to go get a State Civil Union which would legally define the 2 as spouses.

RedRose: Yes I am from USA and yes democracy we vote but within limits (you cannot vote to make whites unabkle to vote, etc).
Also you really didn't answer any of the questions. You just repeated the arguments. If marriage is sacred then you MUST ban divorce and adultery or you cannot logically use that as a defense, if reproduction is the goal then you MUST exclude non-breeders of all sexualites, if kids need both sexes then all uni-sex families must be abolished

Cathy C: Yes they can according to the definition "to complete (the union of a marriage) by the first marital sexual intercourse."
Also you did not say why you are not after a law to prevent the things I asked.

those things used to be illegal
marriage is between a man and a woman, whether they degrade the meaning of it or not.
the very definition of "marriage' is the combining of two DIFFERENT things.
peanut butter and jelly
ham and cheese
laurel and hardy
abbott and costello

semi-joking there, but the point is, the differences make it a "marriage"
the other things are side issues
a jelly and jelly sandwich is just a jelly sandwich
we have degraded our basic institutions so badly, why do it any farther?
call it a civil union, call it whatever you want, but it just simply is NOT marriage, to call it such is simply giving in to pressure

that's how i see it anyway

peace and happy holidays to you and yours

1) Marriage is scared and though morally wrong adultery is not a criminal act so therefore cannot be punished by the government though judges do take this into account when dealing with divorce.

2) The reason why "most" people do not believe in gay marraige same rights is the fact that married couples recieve tax breaks being the fact that the purpose of two couples getting married is to have a raise a family. The tax breaks are in a sense to help married couples in raisng their family. But since two homosexuals cannot have children then why do they need a tax break. And yes there are some but very few married couples who have decided not to have children yet and the few who physically cannot have children they have the option to adopt. But most states in the U.S do not allow gay couples married or not to adopt children which brings me to....

3) When a child has a single parent it is usually not a planned you have divorce, or one of the parent dies, or the mother doesn't know who the father is or the mother or father just doesn't want to take responsibility. But it has been proven that it is "unhealthy" to have a child raised in a home without a mother or vice versa. So since this is harmful then why would they allow this harm to be done unless one of the following I have just mentioned happened? To allow a child to be raised in a homosexual home where one parenting skill is not present is like giving someone a drug when you know the harmful effects it is somewhat criminal and not fair to the child.

4) Marriage has always been between a man and a woman...why should we change the way it has been just because a few want to do something that goes agaisnt all the moralities of marriage. Maybe you are not from the U.S but I am and here Democracy rules so until more people are for gay marriage rather than opposed to it then things will not change.

And just for the record I am for/against gay marriage. I believe gay people should have the right to something equvilant to marriage but not called such including some not all rights of marriage...

Just because something is scared does not mean that it has to be banned. It is called "Separation of Church and State" are you sure you are from the U.S.

People have answered your question you are just looking for someone to agree with you and some of the answers are not clear cut you have to actually have a open mind and think about the answers. Obviously people that are for this think differently about the subject than those who are not so open up and think.

I am against the use of marriage to describe same-sex arrangements. Marriage is defined in the Bible as being between a man and a woman. Therefore, an arrangement other than that of a man and a woman, cannot be marriage. My marriage license says "Holy Matrimony". What is described in the Bible as an abomination can hardly be "holy".

The Gay & Lesbians want you to believe they are victims because people don't want their arrangement to be called marriage. But the fact is, whatever legal rights they want can be done by any competent lawyer.

So you see, Shaz, most of the publicity is because they want to flaunt their rainbow stuff in front of everyone. When's the last time someone introduced himself as a heterosexual?? Most of us really don't care about their lifestyle as long as you don't involve me. But when it comes to redefining marriage into some unholy alliance, then it should be banned.

Unfortunately, there are people who do not practice their marriage vows. GOD created man and woman. GOD also made our bodies to fit perfectly with each other. (man&woman) A marriage has to be consumated before it is considered legal and no gay couple is able to consumate. You don't have the proper tools there. I'm sorry but this is the truth and why marriage should forever be for the heterosexuals. Thank you.

You are going to love this. The reason Same sex Marriage isn't allowed is because of money and nothing else. Our government does not want to deal with ppl ( large companies specificly) taking advantage of the system and financial benefits of "Marriage". People of the same sex getting married for a tax break and health benefits would throw the whole system. Cause it totally makes sense! There are way too many loop holes the government wouldn't be able to control and they would lose BIG MONEY. Marriage was originally created to promote procreation (new consumers for societies benefit)and disease prevention. I wish it was a more noble reason but unfortunately the world is run by dollar bills and the greedy quest for the most amount of them.

i don't believe its marriage as well, maybe a covenant, but not a marriage, i don't think your going to hell if your gay, but i don't think its biologically normal to be gay, just like pedophiles, you can't stop a pedophile from being attracted to children and you can't stop people from being attracted to the same sex, its very psychological

These are good question you should ask our government. I feel you. I am a heterosexual who strongly believe in God and his word. I also feel that every person has the right to live their life however they choose, with whoever. Our country has became the mother of judgement, and confusion. Instead of Love, Peace and happiness.
