So far I haven't heard any reasonable arguments stating the direct influence of the media.

I think the media will use anything that sells. Unfortunately violence is one of those things that attracts a specific target audience. I can't say that there is a direct encouragement through the media, but over time, when someone indulges in something, consequently, their behavior models that which they have "lost" themselves in.

This is a very good question.

I believe many of these "crime solving" shows on TV encourage violence. Although they are intriguing, they do promote violence. When some people watch these shows, they create ideas in their minds that, if they had never seen, they would have never thought about doing. TV shows like Law & Order CI: Criminal Intent and SVU:Special Victims Unit, and the many shows on Court TV, such as Forensic Files, are very informative, but they give criminals ideas for committing crimes. While they are informing us of what's going on in the streets, they are giving ideas to criminals to better "outsmart" the police.

This is true of movies, books, music, and books, too. Watching so much violence in movies, listening to it, or reading it allows us to feel that violence is ok or that it's normal to view this everyday.

Over time, the media coverage slowly brainwashes! Kids are like sponges, they absorb too much of the bad in the world....thus the violence just gets worse.

For those looking for attention, bad is as good as any. School shootings, in my opinion has been the worst. The media, in a negative way, encourages those looking for "Glorification".

I think they should be applauded for doing this.

Without TV violence, California would not have either a Governer or a Major in Carmel
