Wi-Fi short for Wireless Fidety?

I saw that on two different sites and i wanted to make sure this was the correct information

(Also, does anyone know the standard speeds supported by 802.11x?)

Wi-Fi doesn't actually stand for anything. Wi-Fi was a play on words and was a pun referring to High Fidelity or "Hi-Fi". The term Wireless Fidelity came about from people trying determine what Wi-Fi stood for. Most assumed that it was Wireless Fidelity.

As for your 802.11 question, check out Wikipedia's site, they have some really good information:
