They might be fruit flies, which seem to appear overnight in warm weather if you have any food waste or over-ripe fruit anywhere in the house. Get all food garbage out of the house, and if you keep fruit, maybe put in in the fridge or in airtight containers, to see if that does the trick.

There could be any number of sources that they are coming from. They might be fruit gnats or they could be flour gnats or they could be eating your indoor houseplants. Check your cupboards and see if you can see any larvae, under cans, in flour or grain or nuts. Look in the corner of the walls by the ceiling and in any other dark corners to see if you see any larvae. You need to get rid of any thing that might be harboring them. Then they make little boxes with attractant on them that you can put in your home and cupboards and the gnats will flock to it and stick on it and die. They also make an indoor electronic bug zapper that attracts the flying insects by the use of ultraviolet light and capture them where they die. You can buy these things at Costco or Lowe's. You might want to check before you go because they are a seasonal item in some areas. If you don't want to hassle it yourself, call an exterminator and they wil get rid of them for you.

Kind of gross, but I read that those gnats aren't neccessarily "fruit flies" but sewer gnats. We were getting them in our office. We put the stoppers in the sinks & kept them filled with a little water.

Do you have house plants? could be fungus gnats.Checkout the dirt of all your house plants. you will see the little black gnats on the soil. they go into small holes in the dirt. they go away when the plants dry out and get bad after you water your plants. the only way i know of getting rid of them is to get rid of the plant that is infected.
