I'm an American living in Texas (no accent no horse!) and i've been wondering what other countries think of us, our government (don't worry, i think it sucks too), economy, or anything else pertaining to us Americans.

You're nice enough, but why did you have to elect that George Bush idiot twice?
You make good TV programmes.
No matter how bad things get, we'll never hate you as much as we hate the French.

On a more serious note, I've got a problem with the lack of enthusiasm for things like not giving Israel a good talking to and voting against it at the UN occasionally, the unwillingness of the current government to sign any treaties on climate change, issues such as human rights abuses (including the death penalty in some states), and what comes across as a lack of awareness about the rest of the world.
Individual Americans I've met have always been really nice, genuine, friendly people.

I'm American living in London, and I can tell you that people like AFWife make a lot of Brits think quite poorly of us.

She says- "ask yourself this question "Do i really care"
who cares what they think of us, our economy and way of life is way better then theres "

On what do you base that?! I personally prefer England. I think the way of life here is better, and the economy is working just fine for me. But that's opinion, not fact, so I would never tell it to you as anything else. And at least I can back up my opinion, having lived in both places.

Too many Americans speak like that and have NO IDEA what they're talking about, often they've never even left the country so how dare they be so arrogant?

Londoncalling, good for you for caring what people think. It's important to see outside our own country and look at how our country compares and relates to others. The fact that so few of us bother is the reason why so many people don't like us.

Economically, most Brits (maybe 99%) think the US is a dreamland ( - it isn't, but it's very good in the US suburbs where I once lived).

Politically, most Brits know almost nothing about your state systems, other than that you've been in WW2, then were ruthless and cold against the Soviets and the Vietnamese, and now random groups of Muslims have incurred the brainless and cruel wrath of your govt (so it is reported, more or less).

Being from Texas makes you are cowboy, a rancher with a neck broach, jeans and a cowboy hat, who probably works in an office but (according to the prevalent stereotype) still speaks, thinks, eats and makes decisions like a rancher.

Everybody in Europe, regardless of the home country has similarly annoying stereotypes to deal/live with, and many of these include personality presumptions or things like you-drink-a-lot or are more likely to steal or have no emotions or no sense of humour or of fun or your dad is probably so strict that you have never had a chance to....;
..... At the end of the day it's all mean & nasty racism, and us lefties & centrists try not to fall prey to using it.

I think that the people of any country when it is the most important power in the world develop a rather bad side to their personalities. We Brits did in the 19th century and now it's the turn of the Yanks.

Apart from that most Americans are really nice people but maybe a bit too religious

the way I see you Brits is in step with own adventure. i've got been to England, & i've got stumbled for the time of Brits in a great variety of thrilling places by way of the years. i think of maximum (a minimum of those that i've got met) Brits are extraordinarily cool human beings. You tend to be extra open-minded & much less "me" oriented than us human beings. once you adult adult males get to eating, you're an absolute insurrection. i can not talk for others, yet i've got continually discovered Brits to be relaxing corporation.

I'm Irish and from my point of view the USA does seem like the centre of the world. There's a fair gegree of cultural imperialism involved in this. People here often look to American popular culture for their reference points in cinema, music, fashion. America can seems very self-involved and self-interested when it comes to the rest of the world. The British look at the US with a mix of distaste and envy. Their sphere of influence has declined and they will always reference past glories while following obediantly behind whatever course of action the USA takes in World affairs.

But we do love yis still!! After all half my family have been on 'holiday' there... for the past 20 years!

Usually overweight through greed, plastic sentiment ("missing you already" or "have a nice day" are not only meaningless but pointless too), most of the accents are far worse than the worst of the British ones, I've made better XXX porn films in my front room using paper cut-outs than I've ever seen come from America, your "comedians" aren't funny, your TV output is rubbish, and just thank your lucky stars I'm not into politics !

I quite like the americans as a whole but you need to put your policians in a bigger hole as they suck. Too many industrialists pulling their strings which means they are working for business not the people. Too many who think their roots are elsewhere in the world ie. jews/irish who use their influence to use USA to meddle in other countries internal politics ie, Israel and Northern Ireland.

I just wish Americans learnt more about the rest of the world before they saw fit to comment on it!
